drove from Amsterdam to Spain because apparently seeing the sun disappear for 90 seconds required crossing half of Europe by car

somewhere along the way the eclipse became almost secondary to the journey itself. Mediterranean swims, Pyrenees, tiny mountain roads, Andorra 🇦🇩. A place I’ve never been. sleeping wherever we ended up, chasing the weather across Catalonia, then taking the extremely questionable scenic route home through the French and Swiss Alps.

3,500+ km later I still don’t think a photograph can explain what totality actually looked like. It’s like you’re suddenly aware of being on a rock suspended in space, in a vast infinite ocean of nothingness.

We hiked up to a mountain ridge and watched with a small group of people. Not an organized viewing. Best conditions.
