The perfect piano sound in your recording depends on choosing the right microphones and their placement! Here’s a quick guide to great piano microphones and how to use them:

Close-Miking (For Clarity & Attack)
🎤 Neumann KM184 – Crisp & detailed, place two mics inside the lid, one over the bass strings and one over the treble.
🎤 DPA 4099P – Small but powerful, great for live and studio use when you need an intimate, balanced sound.

Stereo Recording (For a Wide, Natural Sound)
🎤 AKG C414 XLII (Matched Pair) – Warm & rich. Use an X/Y or spaced pair technique above the hammers for a full stereo image.
🎤 Schoeps MK4 – Beautifully balanced sound, ideal for classical and jazz recordings.

Room Miking (For Depth & Ambience)
🎤 Neumann U87 – The studio standard! Place a few feet away to capture the room’s natural reverb.
🎤 Royer R-121 (Ribbon Mic)– Adds warmth & vintage character. Great for blending with close mics for a full, organic sound.

Pro Tips
✅ Lid Position Matters – Fully open for brightness, half-open for a warmer tone.
✅ Check for Phase Issues – Align your mics properly to avoid phase cancellation.
✅ Room Acoustics Are Key – A well-treated space enhances the piano’s natural resonance.

🥁Getting the perfect drum sound starts with choosing the right mics & placement!

We’ve put together a quick guide to some great drum mics and how to use them to get the best sound quality:

Kick Drum
🎤 Shure Beta 52A – Punchy & deep, best placed inside the bass drum aiming at the be**er.
🎤 AKG D12 VR – Warm & full-bodied, great for classic & modern tones.

Snare Drum
🎤 Shure SM57 – The GOAT for snare! Place close to the rim, angled toward the center.
🎤 Audix i5 – Crisp & powerful, perfect for a cutting snare sound.

Toms
🎤 Sennheiser MD 421-II – Rich & full, place it 2 inches above the drumhead.

Overheads
🎤 AKG C414 XLII – Captures full kit & cymbal detail. Use as a spaced pair for a wide stereo image.

Hi-Hats
🎤 Neumann KM184 – Super clean & precise. Place 6 inches above the hi-hat, angled away from the snare.

Room Mic
🎤 Neumann U87 – Adds depth & natural reverb. Place at a distance for a pro studio vibe.

General Tips:

✅ Phase Alignment: Always check for phase issues Inverting the phase on certain mics can prevent frequency cancellations.

✅ Room Acoustics: Ensure your room is treated to manage reflections and resonances.

✅ Mic Placement: Experiment with angles and distances to find the sweet spot for each drum.
