ā€œClients don’t like pouting models, right? You probably won’t even get this job you waited so long for because of another 16-year-old girl. She’s been in the business for at least two years longer than you – her portfolio is bigger, and her hips are smaller. Just don’t give up, because (eventually) someone might give you a chance. At that point, all you have to do is strike a pose.ā€

documents her experience with parts of the modelling industry.

ā€œLong before you get to see your face on the glossy magazine covers sold in street kiosks, or the commercial banners for chic boutiques, you'll have to walk through countless castings, photo studios, make up schools and designer ateliers while also living your life through a handful of countries outside of your native continent.

Nobody said it’s gonna be easy – if you’re lucky you’ll earn some money after that second contract you had in Asia, which will help you wipe away the tears of frustration and demotivation. You have to remember to be strong, self-confident and patient. Don’t forget to smile, even when your 16-year-old contract-bound roommate is driving you crazy.ā€

We love ā€˜Strike A Pose’ - a project by documenting the realities of the life of a model.

So I guess we’ll be asking the question again āœ”ļø

Too many events within art and culture have sadly been cancelled this year, so it has been extremely exciting to follow the ones who have adapted, changed and created something during a time when nothing seemed possible.

As an independent magazine, we love to support others with the same passion for print. So, we spoke to fellow Latvian Agnese ZÄ«le – the editor-in-chief of NORK MAGAZINE – about their recently launched fifth volume.

The magazine collects and shares the boldest and strangest stories from Northern Norway and beyond – no small task at the best of times, but even harder in the midst of a global pandemic. Read her thoughts on sustainable futures, how it all started, and what's next for the world of printed magazines.

We speak to editor of NORK Magazine about the north, sustainability and what it means to run a print magazine today.

"I’m bored of commercialising art and turning everything into merchandise. I’m bored with bold statements that don’t reach beyond their aesthetic value. In fact, I barely get bored, but there are things that I find dull. Like, a lack of diversity and insufficiency of thought pluralism. For me that’s a killer of creativity and artistic freedom, so I strive to attach an international dimension to everything I do."

We talk to the emerging curator Tīna Pētersone about one of her more recent projects - temporary.lv, and in what way the location of a project affects the result. We also wonder about the challenges of starting out as a young curator, is the industry welcoming at all?
