the ancient ghost town of Pompeii ✨🫥

I’m sure I’m not the only one who remembers hearing about this fateful ancient city in history lessons at school. Did you hear about it, too? 🧐

Pompeii was once a bustling Roman city of 10 to 15 thousand residents, sitting at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, until one fateful day in 79 AD, when Vesuvius violently erupted and covered everything under layers and layers of volcanic ash. 🌋

It definitely felt a bit strange to walk down these streets. Isn’t this an actual cemetary turned tourist attraction? 😶

the iconic Fiordo di Furore 😍

I’m sure you’ve seen this deep and narrow cove all over the internet – it is one of the most famous spots on the Amalfi Coast ✨

Despite its name (fiordo=fjord), technically it is not a fjord, because fjords are formed by glaciers, but this fjord-like gorge was formed by a river. 😅 Nevertheless, this place is a must-visit on the Amalfi Coast! 🤩

Path of the Gods 👑 known as one of the most beautiful hikes in Italy, this is a must-do for every visitor to the Amalfi Coast 🍋

This area is known as ‘the Divine Coast’ for a reason, and to see it all from above is nothing short of spectacular 😍

Amalfi off the beaten path 🐾 Hike to Valle delle Ferriere goes along ruins of old mills, lemon groves and numerous waterfalls 💦 the perfect place to get away from Amalfi crowds and get lost in nature 🌿

One of my favorite perks of slow traveling and digital nomading is the possibility to explore places off the beaten path and far beyond the typical hotspots on every traveler’s bucket list ☺️ yes, there are ‘hidden’ places in every popular tourist destination ✨

Chiostro del Paradiso 😍 or Cloister of Paradise is one of the most beautiful places to visit on the Amalfi Coast, and a must-visit place in Amalfi town. ✨

The cloister dates back to the 13th century, when it was built and served as a burial place for noble families in the town. Today, you can stroll through and admire the cloister for a small entrance fee.

Amalfi 🍋 town with character and that special charm 💫

It is no wonder so many people visit this place, but, if you can, I highly recommend arriving here in the morning before the main square fills up with people. 😅 There’s a special magic to see places in the morning hours. ✨ Feels like a completely different place compared to the situation around midday 🫣

Amalfi moments and my favorite view of the town from Amalfi dock ✨😍

If you are planning to explore the Amalfi Coast, the best towns to stay in are Amalfi and Maiori. They are the biggest towns on the coast and offer convenient bus and ferry connections to other villages and Amalfi Coast attractions. 🍋

However, if you want to rent a car or you wish to explore the wider area around the Amalfi Coast (Naples, Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius, Capri Island), 🚙 then it would be better to stay in Sorrento or Salerno - two bigger cities right outside the Amalfi Coast, so that you don’t have to cross the mountains, ⛰️ stress out in traffic jams🚦(sooo time consuming!) or pay bigger sums of money for a ferry ⛴️ each time you want to get out of the Amalfi Coast.

It is definitely not the most accessible destination in Italy 😮‍💨😅

Amalfi’s waterfall hike to Valle delle Ferriere 💦🌿

Amalfi Town is surrounded by mountains, lemon groves, and lush forests, making it the perfect place to enjoy a peaceful hike along a gurgling river and fragrant forest paths. 🐝🌳🍋

Valle delle Ferriere is the most popular hike you can do from Amalfi Town - start it anywhere in the town and just head straight up into the valley. It goes along multiple waterfalls and several abandoned, spooky water mills.

One of my favorite hikes we did on the Amalfi Coast! ⛰️🙂‍↕️🤩
