Call for Applications – Cross-Border Ambassadors 2025 🌍

Are you 18–30 and living in or connected to a Europe’s border region? Want to make a difference in your border region and have your say in Europe?

The Border Focal Point Network is looking for 10 motivated young people to join the Cross-Border Ambassadors programme 2025– an exciting 6-month opportunity to share your voice, represent your region, and help shape EU policy from the ground up! 💬✨

This initiative, led by the European Commission’s DG REGIO, empowers young people to:
🔹 Raise awareness about life in border regions
🔹 Bring local stories and solutions to EU decision-makers
🔹 Create youth-led content (videos, events, podcasts, etc.)
🔹 Join a vibrant community across Europe

🇱🇻🇱🇹 The Latvia–Lithuania Programme joins the conversation on the future of Interreg! 🤝🌍

Last week we participated in a meeting in Riga 🇪🇺, bringing together Interreg and transnational programmes from countries bordering Belarus and Russia. Organised by Interact Programme and hosted with representatives from the European Commission’s DG Regio, the discussion focused on current Interreg support to the EU Eastern regions and the upcoming EU funding period beyond 2027.

💬 During the meeting, we shared the current status of project implementation in our programme – highlighting steady progress, strong partnerships, and growing interest across priority areas such as social inclusion 👥, civil protection 🚒, climate change adaptation 🌿, and activating local communities 🏘️. We also emphasized the importance of continued support to .

The European Commission reaffirmed its commitment to supporting border regions and ensuring they remain a key focus in the future Interreg framework. 🔗🌐

The Latvia 🇱🇻–Lithuania 🇱🇹 border region is rich in history, but many remote museums face serious challenges - outdated exhibits, limited digital tools, and minimal cross-border collaboration - making it difficult to meet the expectations of today’s modern, curious, and tech-savvy visitors. 📉🖼️

That’s where our project, MATOMI (LL-00263), comes in. 💡🇱🇻🤝🇱🇹

It aims to revitalize the cultural landscape by:
🔹 Creating a joint cultural route connecting 13 museums across Latvia and Lithuania
🔹 Modernizing exhibitions in 4 museums with innovative design and digital technologies, and developing virtual reality tours in 9 museums
🔹 Providing training for museum staff in both countries on using new technologies and engaging diverse audiences, including those with limited access
🔹 Promoting collaboration and knowledge-sharing on innovative solutions for preserving cultural heritage
🔹 Showcasing the project at the international tourism fair in Berlin 🌍

🚒 Recently, the State Fire and Rescue Service of the Kurzeme Region 🇱🇻 and the Klaipėda Region Fire and Rescue Board 🇱🇹 launched the FireLess project (LL-00275)! 🇱🇻🤝🇱🇹

🔥 Goal: Strengthen firefighting capacity and readiness for forest fires and related emergencies in Kurzeme and Klaipėda.

📌 Key activities:
✅ Joint trainings & large-scale exercises
✅ Physical fitness bootcamp
✅ Firefighting sports competitions
✅ Public awareness campaigns
✅ Equipment acquisition

🌍 By boosting firefighter preparedness, the project helps cross-border regions better adapt to climate change and ensures a more sustainable environment.

🪨🌍 Exciting news from our Project LL-00244 GEOSITES!

Partners have officially set a clear action plan for the next two years to ensure the protection, management, and sustainable preservation of geological heritage in Latvia 🇱🇻 and Lithuania 🇱🇹.

The project will:
📍 Map and study underwater geological formations in the Alki Shoal in the Latvian Exclusive Economic Zone of the Baltic Sea and Lake Plateliai (Lithuania)
🌄 Document terrestrial geological features in Kurzeme and Žemaitija

It will also deliver:
📚 Scientific assessments of the ecological significance of the studied ecosystems
📝 Management plans for improved protection and sustainable use of geological heritage
🎓 Educational materials to raise awareness and promote conservation
📢 Public awareness campaigns involving regional and local authorities, researchers, and the wider public
