🔴BREAKING: performed 3 more rescues in Libyan SRR yesterday:

After the 1st rescue of 110 people, Italian authorities (ITMRCC) assigned Ortona, 1,420kms away, as a Place of Safety.

Later, ITMRCC gave instruction to assess a wooden boat in distress.

~2h later, performed a complex rescue of an overcrowded fiberglass boat. The 44 people had no lifejackets & 1 person presented a head injury.

& are now caring for 261 surivors, 16 women (4 pregnant) a 1 y/o baby, 1 child & 67 unaccompanied minors.

🔴BREAKING NEWS+++ As the Seawatch5 was heading to the assigned port in Civitavecchia, the crew came across two boats in distress. As instructed by the rescue coordination center in Rome, we accompanied the people until Italian authorities arrived to rescue. The Sea-Watch 5 is now heading north again.

🔴The crew rescued 50 people from distress at sea yesterday. The boat was spotted & reported to the authorities from the air by Seabird. Our guests are now on the Sea-Watch 5 and on their way to Civitavecchia - the port assigned to us.

European policies continue to push tens of thousands of people into the Mediterranean. More than 100 people have already drowned since the beginning of 2024.

Violent interceptions and murder at sea🛑

On the 29th November 2023, the Libyan coast guard intercepted 53 people from a 8 meter-long rubber boat 40kms off the coast of Zuwara. Survivors say that prior to their interception, live bullets were fired at the rubber dinghy causing havoc on the boat. While on board the Libyan coast guard vessel, they encountered another boat (wooden) which the coast guard violently crashed over and over again, causing 4 people to jump off. The driver of the wooden boat eventually stopped and all the passengers onboard were pulled back to Tripoli and imprisoned in Ainzara.
Most of them had to pay minimum 500$ to the prison officers in order to be released.

🔴Breaking: Today, the crew of assisted the Italian coastguard in a rescue of 42 people. After spotting the boat with the help of the aircraft , the Italian authorities requested us to assess the situation and wait for the coastguard.

In the meantime, the crew was handing out life jackets to the survivors, who had been on sea for several days already. They are brought to Lampedusa by the Italian coastguard.
