أشارت الدراسات التي أجراها باحثون من مركز العقل والسلوك الإسباني أن السخرية من الذات مفيدة للصحة النفسية، و تقاوم الغضب و تعزز الشعور بالسعادة.

لذا يقال ‏"إذا رأيت شخصًا يسخر من نفسه ، يمكنك أن تكون متأكدًا تمامًا من أنه ليس أحمق ، لأن القدرة على السخرية من الذات هي علامة واضحة لا جدال فيها على الذكاء."

يقول ●شوبنهاور أن حس السخرية هو الصفة الإلهية الوحيدة الموجودة في الإنسان، بينما يرى ●دوستويفسكي السُّخرية هي الملاذُ الأخير لشعوب. أما ●سينيكا فيرى أن السخرية من الحياة هو سلوك أكثر تحضرا من الانشغال بالتكفير عن الخطايا و التطهر من الذنوب أو ندب حضنا العاثر تجاهها، و هو ما ينسجم مع رؤية الكوميدي ريكي جريفيز الذي يرى أن السخرية من الذات، التهكم على تراجيديا الآخرين و الكوميديا السوداء تجعل الحياة قابلة للعيش.

أسطورة يونانية ، تتمحور حول رجل حدّاد ، كان يدعو الناس للمبيت عنده ؛ ثم يضعهم على سرير في بيته، فمن زاد طوله عن السرير ، بترَ الزائد منه ، و من كان أقصر ، مدّ أطرافه حتى تتمزق ؛
الشخص الوحيد الذي ينجو منه ، هو الذي يناسب مقاس جسمه مقاس السرير !!!
لكن في الحقيقة هذه ليست أسطورة فقط ، بل واقع الكثير منا للأسف ؛ فنحن لدينا في أذهاننا سرير بروكرست، لاننا -غالباً - لا نقبل أي شخص كما هو ، بل نبادر إلى حشره في صورة نصنعها له، و نتخلص مما لا يوافقها ،
لذا يجب علينا أن نفكر جيداً، و نقذف بهذا السرير خارج أذهاننا، و نتعلم أن للناس مقاسات و رؤى مختلفة،
و أن لا نحشرهم في إطار محدد مسبق الصنع ، نصنعه لهم ثم نلومهم إذا خالفوه، أو خرجوا عنه !!!
