University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) has been shortlisted for the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Arab World 2026 in the Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership category.
This recognition reflects UM6P's institution-wide approach to sustainability, where environmental leadership is embedded across campus operations, research, education, innovation, and community engagement.
As the first African university to achieve both STARS Silver and Gold certification, UM6P continues to position its Benguerir campus as a living laboratory for sustainable solutions adapted to arid environments. From 25 LEED-aligned buildings and a dedicated MAD 10 million Sustainable Development Fund, to GHG Protocol-based carbon accounting, sustainability is translated into measurable and independently verified impact.
Our research ecosystem drives real-world change through more than 1900 SDG-aligned publications, pioneering initiatives such as Climate Impulse, the world's first zero-emission round-the-world flight, and policy contributions through international platforms including the U7+ Alliance.
Beyond the campus, UM6P is strengthening sustainability leadership across Africa through executive education, strategic partnerships, and programs that empower the next generation of changemakers.
We are honored to be recognized alongside leading institutions across the Arab World and remain committed to advancing innovative, science-based solutions that contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future.
