I sold my land and got three million pesos. I gave it all to my oldest son and his wife to build a house in their name... But exactly two months later, they told me they were going to change my address—to a rented room! They didn't know that, when I signed the papers, I had already prepared a plan—a careful move I'd thought about for a long time.
"Dad, don't worry. When the house is finished, you'll live on the first floor—spacious, cool, and with a beautiful altar for the grandparents."
To this day, I can't forget those words from my oldest son.
That day, I held in my hands the deed of sale for the last piece of land I worked so hard to earn my entire life—land filled with memories of my youth.
I choked back tears as I signed, and with all my heart, I handed the three million pesos to the couple.
I said to myself:
"It's okay. I have children and grandchildren. As long as I have a place to live in my old age, that's enough." The house was finished—beautiful, three-story, luxurious.
All the neighbors admired it, saying:
“How lucky you are, Don Andrés, to have such a good and loving son.”
But the happiness didn't last long.
Only two months later, one hot afternoon, they called me.
Their faces were serious and cold.
“Dad,” my son said, “we've decided to have separate homes. For now, you can stay in a boarding house, so it's easier for us to manage the house.”
It was as if the world had stopped dead in its tracks.
I, who had worked all my life, who had sold all my property to build that house for them—was now evicted from the very home that existed thanks to my sacrifice.
I couldn't sleep all night.
In the small rented room, as the old fan creaked, I remembered their smiles when they received the money and the sweet promises they made me.
I smiled, but bitterly.
They didn't know that when I signed the land documents, I already had a plan in mind—a calculated move they would never have expected.
It wasn't impulsive, but a precise step, enough to make them understand that I'm not an old man who's easy to fool.
And from then on, this story stopped being that of a father abandoned by his own son… and became the story of a father who knew how to rise up—a battle he had long prepared for, with each carefully calculated step.
