Its Time For Us To Be Honest With You.
If you look back at our posts since getting back to the UK in April, it looks like we’ve just been getting on with it.
But the truth is, we’ve been hiding a lot.
We've decided to be transparent about everything because keeping up this façade, pretending everything is fine has basically become impossible.
For nearly 3 months it’s been nothing but van problems, marriage problems and life problems. And it's been a level of heavy that neither of us has experienced for a long time..
First off, we've spent months fixing (and also finding problems with) our home -
* New brake discs and pads (but had to deal with rounded wheel nuts)
* Replaced our lower arms (but had to deal with snapped bolts)
* Snapped bolts on the subframe
* Discovered rust the day before our MOT - it became so much worse than we expected
* Last minute fabrication & welding to fix the frankly giant rust hole
We then had to quickly escape where we had been staying (because it really was an escape) - a situation so toxic it caused Stevie to shutdown completely
* STILL needed to find somewhere else to repair and weld our side-door panel
* Sorted the door panel thanks to the kindness of strangers
* Discovered a HUGE crack in our leaf spring
* Found a lay-by to fix and upgrade them (but dealt with huge stress about where to do it)
And this doesn't even include the painting, decorating, general DIY AND clever 'Stevie' additions we've also been doing whilst all this has been going on
Plus, we do ALL OF THIS WORK OURSELVES. No garages; just us, our tools and wherever is safest to work whilst living on the road.
I know I'm shouting about this, but I don't care anymore. It's about time we give ourselves credit for just how incredible we really are.
Unsprisingly though, we didn't process a single thing as it was happening. There just wasn't time to. It was just non-stop stress, work, tension... and no room to breathe.
And then, because we were burying it all, things REALLY started going wrong. Life started unraveling and we completely lost ourselves.
All this unfortunately (but again, unsuprisingly) made our marriage issues ten times worse — way worse than even our worst AuDHD stressful moments.
We were running on emotional exhaustion, completely and utterly disconnected (from ourselves, reality and each other).
I'm going to be honest and say it got that bad that our marriage very nearly ended. We just stopped being able to see a way out of the dark place we were in.
It's taken hitting a wall (that neither of us wants to ever, ever see again) to force a change.
It's forced us to stop. Stop pretending, stop ignoring and stop running.
We decided to deal with what was happening between us - because we owe it to ourselves and our love for each other to live life differently.
It is not easy, but actually dropping the false front has triggered the breakthrough we've been searching for.
So today we’re in a completely different space..
We're talking openly, being very real (even if it's painful), and facing things together instead of letting the stress destroy us from the inside.
The changes are already happening, and life is already more amazing than we could ever have imagined.
We've been married for nearly 6 years and I promise you that our marriage has never been so genuinely wonderful.
There is no other person out there that understands us the way we understand each other. And we also owe it to every past version of ourselves to live the life we deserve.
This next chapter is going to be our very best yet! We can't wait to experience it together and share our very real journey with you guys.
Thank you for reading
