Mali: Unraveling the Lifting of the Jihadist Blockade in Boni
Jihadists have lifted the blockade that they imposed on the town of Boni, located in the Douentza region, for nearly two years. The Jnim (Group for Support of Islam and Muslims), linked to al-Qaeda, has ended the embargo affecting both the town and the road connecting it to Douentza and Gao.
A local agreement was reached on Saturday, March 29th, following negotiations led by local dignitaries with mediation from the Api-Idec (Association for Inter- and Intra-Community Peace, Development, and Social Cohesion) and the involvement of the Malian state.
