Placebo are a British alternative rock band, formed in London in 1994 by vocalist–guitarist Brian Molko and bassist–guitarist Stefan Olsdal, and later that year Robert Schultzberg joined as drummer. Molko was born in Belgium, while Olsdal and Schultzberg were born in Sweden. Molko and Olsdal grew up in Luxembourg before separately relocating to London and becoming British citizens. Schultzberg left the band in the mid-'90s shortly after the release of the band's eponymous debut album due to conflicts with Molko and was replaced the same year by Steve Hewitt.💞🥁🖤🎸📀

Following the release of a demo, a split single, and their eponymous debut album, Placebo gained exposure after the single "Nancy Boy" became popular in the UK, a song notorious at the time for its gender-bending content. The band stood out amongst the Britpop scene they were associated with for their androgynous appearance and musical content, as well as Molko's distinctive voice and lyrics, which openly discussed sexuality, mental health, and drug use.

Hewitt left Placebo in the late 2000s due to personal and musical differences. He was replaced the following year by Steve Forrest. Placebo released two albums with Forrest, who left in the mid-2010s to pursue his own musical career. Since then, Placebo has officially been a duo, though augmented with additional musicians.

Placebo have collaborated with various artists over the years, including David Bowie, Justin Warfield, Michael Stipe, and Alison Mosshart. They have released eight studio albums, all of which have reached the Top 20 in the United Kingdom, and have sold around 14 million records worldwide.

System of a Down is an Armenian-American metal band formed in 1994, known for its unique blend of heavy metal, alternative rock, and politically charged lyrics. The band’s lineup consists of Serj Tankian (vocals), Daron Malakian (guitar), Shavo Odadjian (bass), and John Dolmayan (drums). Their music often addresses social, political, and cultural issues, with a focus on human rights, war, and oppression, making them a voice for activism within the rock world.

Their breakthrough album, *Toxicity* (2001), showcased their ability to mix melodic elements with aggressive riffs and intricate arrangements, producing hits like "Chop Suey!" and "Toxicity." These tracks became anthems for a generation, blending complex rhythms with catchy hooks and Tankian’s powerful vocals.

System of a Down’s sound is characterized by rapid changes in tempo, unconventional song structures, and a mix of aggressive and melodic passages. Their music is often chaotic and experimental, making them one of the most unique and influential bands in the heavy metal scene.

The band went on hiatus in 2006 but reunited in 2011, and their live performances continue to draw large crowds worldwide. Despite their relatively sparse discography, System of a Down's impact on metal and rock music remains profound, with songs that resonate due to their bold messages and distinct sound.
