Pakistan will respond

Mayu24.News

7 May 2025

Pakistans Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that India will face Pakistans very fierce response, after India fired missiles into Pakistani-controlled territory in several locations early Wednesday, killing at least eight people including a child, Pakistani authorities said.

As far as the current situation is ongoing, we are responding. We shot down as per initial reports, weve shot down two Indian planes and obviously India is the aggressor, provocator, Tarar told British broadcaster Sky News.

Indias missiles struck locations in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and in the countrys eastern Punjab province. One strike hit a mosque in the city of Bahawalpur in Punjab, where a child was killed and a woman and man were injured.

Pakistan downs five Indian warplanes, takes Indian soldiers prisoner — Defence Minister

The Pakistani Air Force has downed five Indian Air Force warplanes, Pakistani officials and local media reported, following Indian missile strikes on Pakistan that left eight people dead, 35 wounded and two missing.

Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said five Indian warplanes were downed and many Indian soldiers were taken prisoners.

"If these hostile acts are stopped... We will definitely talk to India. We do not want this situation to escalate," Asif told Bloomberg. "But if there are hostile acts initiated from the Indian side, we have to respond."

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Pakistani military spokesperson, told Reuters news agency that Pakistan shot down three Rafale planes, one Sukhoi SU-30 and one MIG-29 being flown by India.

Earlier, Pakistani Minister of Information Attaullah Tarar told TRT World that one plane had been shot down over the Akhnoor sector in disputed Kashmir and another plane in the Indian city of Ambala, while a UAV drone was downed in the Jammu region of India-administered Kashmir.

Tarar said the Pakistani military was responding to Indian missiles that targeted "civilian areas".

A Pakistani military spokesperson said some other Indian defence installations have been "destroyed".

India has yet to respond to Pakistan's claims.

On April 26, twenty Rohingya families from the Shwe Zar village tract in Maungdaw Township were abducted by the Arakan Army (AA) and have since been held in captivity. Some of them have reportedly been sentenced to five years in prison.

A resident told .News, “Twenty families, including Mohammed Alom’s family from the Shwe Zar village tract, were summoned for demographic (household) registration. They were all taken into custody by the Arakan Army (AA) in downtown Maungdaw under the pretext of a population inspection. They were examined according to their family members, and some were detained and sentenced to imprisonment based on certain allegations. These individuals received sentences ranging from two to five years by the Arakan Army (AA)'s court in Maungdaw.”

Since April 26, these families have remained in Arakan Army (AA) custody based on what are believed to be false allegations.

A source also told Mayu24.News, “Thousands of Rohingya families fled to Bangladesh during the conflict between the Arakan Army (AA) and the Military Junta in Maungdaw. Among them, some families have begun returning. However, each returning individual is required to pay 100,000 kyats, including breastfeeding children, who are charged the same as adults. A family of ten, for example, must pay 1 million kyats. Additionally, returning families are taken into custody for the purpose of processing family registration documents. In some cases, families have been detained over alleged connections with the Military Junta.”

Mohammad Rashid Beaten to Death by Arakan Army While in Detention

Mayu24.News – 5 May 2025

Arakan Now previously reported that on 24 April 2025, the Arakan Army (AA) abducted five Rohingya men from Aley Chaung village in Buthidaung Township.

One of the abducted men was Mohammad Rashid, a prominent community figure in Buthidaung, also known by the Burmese title “နိုင်ငံတော်ရော်ရှိတ်”.

Following the Arakan Army’s full takeover of Buthidaung, Rashid was appointed chairperson of Aley Chaung village.

On 24 April, he and four others were taken by the Arakan Army without explanation. No official reason was given for their arrest.

A local villager told Arakan Now that Rashid was severely beaten and tortured by AA forces while in custody. He later died from the injuries sustained during the abuse. The Arakan Army subsequently informed the village that Rashid had died while in their detention.

The status and whereabouts of the remaining four detainees are still unknown. Mayu24.News continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as new information becomes available.

Historic Initiative Launched: Rohingya Refugees Form Examination Board in Cox’s Bazar

Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh — In a groundbreaking and united effort, the Rohingya refugee community in the Cox’s Bazar camps has formally established the Examination Board of Rohingya Refugees (EBRR) Examination Board of Rohingya Refugees . This pioneering initiative represents a significant step toward educational recognition, dignity, and self-determination for thousands of Rohingya students who have been historically deprived of formal academic pathways.

Spearheaded entirely by members of the Rohingya community, the EBRR will serve as an independent, community-led body to organize, standardize, and certify examinations within the camps. The board’s mission is to empower Rohingya youth through accessible and credible education, laying the foundation for future academic and professional opportunities both within and beyond the refugee context.

This development marks a powerful declaration of the community’s resilience and determination to preserve its right to education and to invest in the future of its younger generations.

United Plea: Gratitude & Hope from Rohingya Refugee Community

Date: 17 March 2025

We, the Rohingya refugee community living in the world’s largest refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, extend our deepest gratitude to his Excellency António Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General, for visiting us and standing in solidarity with us during this holy month of Ramadan. His presence and participation in Iftar with our community have not only uplifted our spirits but have also brought crucial global attention to the Rohingya crisis. His continued efforts to highlight our plight give us hope for a just and dignified future.
We also express our heartfelt appreciation to the government and people of Bangladesh for their generosity in hosting 1.2 million forcibly displaced Rohingya people.Despite facing their own challenges, Bangladesh has opened its borders to us and provided a safe space where we can seek refuge. We acknowledge the sacrifices made by the host community and remain grateful for their kindness and support over the years.
Furthermore, we extend our sincere thanks to all the kind hearted donating countries, agencies and individual including the people of the United States and its government for their significant humanitarian assistance. The unwavering support from America has been instrumental in ensuring our access to essential services particularly food, shelter, alternative cooking fuel (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), protection, nutrition, health care, education, water and sanitation, and a safer living environment. We deeply appreciate that more than fifty percent of the humanitarian aid we receive came from the United States and its people from 2017 to end of 2024, made a vital difference in our daily survival and well-being.
Without the support of the American people and their government, survival in the refugee camps of Cox’s Bazar would be nearly impossible, as we are entirely dependent on humanitarian aid. The political and financial commitment from the United State has been a lifeline for our community, ensuring that we can sustain ourselves in these challenging circumstances. We humbly request the people of the United States and their government to continue standing with us until a lasting and dignified solution to our crisis is achieved.

Sincerely,
On Behalf of the Rohingya Refugee
Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh
