Crossing hours of Thanlwin Bridge (Mawlamyine) adjusted
The crossing hours of Thanlwin Bridge (Mawlamyine), a bridge over the Thanlwin River that connects Mawlamyine town in Mon State and Mottama town in Paung Township, has been adjusted from July 16, according to sources.
The closing hours of Thanlwin Bridge (Mawlamyine), which was previously set from 9 pm to 5 am, has been changed from 8 pm to 6 am, according to sources close to the security forces.
The change in the bridge crossing hours at Thanlwin Bridge (Mawlamyine) has caused difficulties for ambulances, trucks, and cargo vehicles, according to local residents.
A green goods trader from Mottama said that the bridge was previously closed at 9 pm, so trucks carrying green goods from the Mottama side could reach Mawlamyine before 9 pm and return to Mottama. Now, since the bridge has been closed earlier, it is too late to go to Mawlamyine and then return to Mottama, so they have to spend the night in Mawlamyine itself.
He continued, “There is another way. For example, if the waterway is not closed, we can transport the green goods by water. If the waterway is closed, we will have to arrange a different way to send green goods to Mawlamyine.”
On the other hand, trucks and passenger vehicles driving at night in Thaton, Bilin and Kyaikto townships along the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway, have also been frequently attacked by mines and guns, and the bridge closure period has been extended due to security concerns, sources said.
Similarly, the Attharan Bridge, which connects Kwechangone Ward and Nyaungpin Sake Ward (Mawlamyine Industrial Zone) on the Mawlamyine-Hpa-an highway, has been closed to traffic from 8 pm to 6 am.
In addition, a nighttime curfew has been imposed in Mawlamyine, Paung, Thaton, Bilin, and Kyaikto townships in Mon State.
