❝လူတွေကို တခြားမျိုးစိတ်တွေကနေ ကွဲပြားစေတဲ့အကြောင်းအရာထဲမှာ ဘာသာစကားပါပါတယ်။ သူတို့မှာလည်း သူတို့ဘာသာစကားမရှိတာမဟုတ်ဘူး။ ရှိတယ်။ မေဖူးတို့ ဘာသာစကားက အဆင့်မြင့်တယ်။ စာပေနဲ့ ချရေးတဲ့အဆင့်ထိ ရောက်လာတယ်။ ဘာသာစကားက ဘာလဲဆိုရင် ခေါင်းထဲမှာရှိနေတဲ့အတွေးကို စကားလုံးအနေနဲ့ ဖော်ထုတ်တယ်။ ပြီးတော့ ပါးစပ်နဲ့ပြောစရာမလိုတော့ပဲနဲ့ နောက်မျိုးဆက်တွေဆီ‌ရောက်အောင် လက်နဲ့ စာချရေးတာကနေပြီးတော့ ဖြစ်လာတယ်။❞

It has reached the stage of literature and writing. Language is what expresses the thoughts in our minds into words. Episode (4) : The Price of A Language

In this episode 4 of G-Taw Zagar Wyne, we have a conversation with May Phoo, a q***r feminist, to explore the motivations that led her to feminism and her journey studying Political Science in the United States. Through these experiences, the discussion delves into the values and perceptions that exist between language and identity.

In particular, the conversation touches on the difficulties and challenges of finding and using academic terminology in our own language; the inaccessibility of language learning based on gender and socio-economic conditions, discrimination rooted in language, misconceptions and overvaluation of the English language, the power of words and the ethical responsibility involved in creating and using them, as well as perspectives on the use of AI.

Speaker bio : May Phoo currently serves as a Supervisor at Voice of Ithiya and is a passionate q***r feminist who strongly advocates for creating spaces where complex ideas and issues can be collectively discussed. She believes that only through radical and transformative thinking can genuine equality for marginalized communities be achieved, and that existing power structures must be challenged. She is currently specializing in Political Science and holds a deep passion for justice, one that is as heartfelt and devoted as the love she has for her cats.

❝Some teachers in the government schools (I mean, not all, but based on my experience) treat students really harshly, for example, hitting students with canes or hitting them with their hands. So, students barely feel safe in the classroom because of verbal abuse and physical violence mentioned above. It’s terrible that we are being treated in this way in the school where we have to spend almost all day long, even when we aren’t at home. So, as a student, I didn’t find school to be a safe place. That’s how I became the teacher I needed when I was younger.❞

In this third episode of G-Taw Zagar Wyne, we are joined by May, the creator of the "Learn English with May" page and a dedicated feminist, to discuss the "Language of a Feminist Life" through her personal journey. Based in Japan, May shares her lived experiences of navigating the struggles for justice, digital gender-based violence, and the challenges women face in precarious contexts, while exploring her resistance against patriarchal norms and societal stereotypes.

Speaker Bio: May is a Myanmar feminist educator, researcher, and storyteller currently based in Japan. Her work focuses on feminism in Myanmar, digital gender-based violence, and how women navigate justice, belonging, and resistance in contexts where legal and institutional protections are limited. She also researches belonging, native-speakerism, and equity in the English language teaching field, with a particular focus on the racialized experiences of educators of color. Drawing from her research, teaching, and lived experience, she uses feminist pedagogy and storytelling to connect the personal with the political, especially in online spaces. She believes feminism must be rooted in lived experience and collective care, not just theory.

“တစ်ပုံစံတည်းတူတယ် (Identical) ဆိုတာ equality (တန်းတူညီမျှတယ်) ကို ပြောတာမဟုတ်ဘူး။ ဘယ်သူနဲ့ ဘယ်သူမှ identical မဖြစ်နိုင်ဘူး။ အမွှာတွေမှာတောင်မှ မတူတာတွေကတော့ရှိတယ်။ Genetic materials တွေမှာပဲတူတာ။ ဒါ‌ပေမဲ့ သူတို့တွေကြီးပြင်းလာတဲ့ပုံပန်းသဏ္ဍာန်ပုံစံတွေပေါ်မှာမူတည်ပြီး တော့ သူတို့ဟာ မတူညီတဲ့ လူသားနှစ်ဦး ဖြစ်သွားတာ တစ်ချိန်မှာ။ အဲ့တော့ ကျွန်မတို့ပြောပြောနေတဲ့ တန်းတူညီမျှမှုဆိုတာက identical ဖြစ်တဲ့ တစ်ထပ်တည်းကျတာကို ပြောတာမဟုတ်ဘူး။ အဲ့ဒါကို ကွဲကွဲပြားပြားသိဖို့လိုအပ်တယ်။ အခွင့်အရေးတွေမှာသော်လည်းကောင်း၊ လူမှုရေးပါဝင်မှု သော်လည်းကောင်း တူညီတဲ့အခွင့်အလမ်းတွေ ရဖို့လိုအပ်တယ်။”

Episode (2) : A Hijabi Activist's Journey in SRHR Field

In this episode, we explore the journey of a Hijabi activist working in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).Our guest, Dr. Thet Htwe, the founder of Strong Flower Organization, shares her transition from general medicine to Family Medicine and the inspiration behind founding her organization. As a Hijabi woman, she discusses her experiences and struggles in promoting gender equality and rights, using her expertise in SRHR to empower others and challenge barriers.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Thet Htwe is a family medicine specialist who obtained her medical degree and diploma in family medicine from Yangon Medical University. In 2015, she founded a local non-profit organization called "Strong Flowers," which continues to provide education on sexual and reproductive health to all people, including young women and girls. The organization's mission is to promote gender equality and gender rights based on knowledge of reproductive health. In line with this mission, the organization is actively working to provide a change that promotes positive behaviors related to reproductive health within the community through public talks, case management, and training programs.
