Here's something for your mind this August since schools are re-opening and students are busy...
Is it time for a credentialing overhaul? The rapid rise of micro-credentials (e.g. digital certificates, short courses) challenges traditional macro-credential (e.g. institiutional degree) regulation. Can this system keep up?
🔎Macro-credentials are traditional qualifications like degrees and diplomas that focus on broad knowledge and skills.
🔎Micro-credentials are smaller, focused certifications validating specific competencies.
While macro-credentials offer a broad overview, micro-credentials provide a more agile, skill-focused approach. Both validate learning and can boost careers, but they differ in scope, time commitment, and delivery.
❓The question is: How do we ensure quality and consistency across these vastly different credential types? It's a complex issue with far-reaching implications.
What do you think?
