Pay Increase for Govt Staff n Pensioners

Civil servants, including military personnel and retired government staff will receive an additional monthly allowance of 30,000 Kyats starting from October 1.

This new measure follows earlier increments when the first additional allowance of 30,000 Kyats was announced in October 2023, and another 30,000 Kyats in August 2024.

With the latest increase, civil servants and retirees, who currently receive 60,000 Kyats in monthly allowances, will now receive a total of 90,000 Kyats in allowances each month, from October onwards. It really comes in at a time when all salaried personnel are under pressure due to the high inflation especially of imported goods

With official inflation hanging around 30%, we will have to wait and see if the price increases would catch up soon. At the same time, Myanmar outlook is looking increasingly positive as we gear towards the elections; majority of the international community is hoping for more engagement with the country once the new government is in place from March 2026.

Government Continuing to Subsidize Fuel

Government is continuing to subsidize power and fuel for consumers in Myanmar costing major budget deficits due to sustained assistance.
In order to cut down the imports, Ministry of Energy distributes domestically produced RON 68 petrol from the Petrochemical Industries at 2,200 Kyats per litre through Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise owned fuel stations.
Although the No 1 Liquefied Petroleum Gas Plant in Minbu, Magway region under the Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise had to suspend operations in 2023 due to mechanical and security issues, it has now resumed operations. Further supply is added due to the production by this refinery. The fuel is being distributed to the public at 2,245 Kyats per litre through the petrol stations Nay Pyi Taw starting from October 1.
