Governor Arnold Palacios and Lieutenant Gov. David Apatang announced today that approximately $17.6M in tax refunds will be released this month.

The Department of Finance, Division of Revenue & Taxation (DRT) has already processed over 12,799 tax returns, amounting to approximately $17.6 million in potential tax refunds.

πŸ”΅ Child Tax refunds amounting to $4.4 million
πŸ”΅ Earned Income Tax Credit amounting to $10.4 million
πŸ”΅ Regular Refund/Rebate amounting to $2.7 million

These refund estimates are likely to increase as DRT continues to receive and process tax returns.

Governor Palacios thanked the Department of Finance team for their diligence and commitment in processing the tax refunds expeditiously. He also asked for everyone to continue to exercise patience as the refund process continues.

β€œI commend the Department of Finance team for their work in processing refunds quickly to distribute these refunds to our community,” Governor Palacios stated.

According to Finance Secretary Tracy Norita, actual disbursement of refunds requires a tax return to be error-free, and as such, any errors on returns may cause delays in the issuance of a refund.

The DRT expects to disburse the first batch of refunds by May 15 and will continue weekly as refunds become available to disburse.

Taxpayers who opted for a check payment method may expect additional processing time for mail delivery.

Finance stated that taxpayers may check on the status of their refund online through the Taxpayer Assistance Portal at https://finance.gov.mp/taxpayer-assistance.php . Taxpayers are able to submit a status request ticket by providing: Social Security Number, Mailing Address, Filing Tax Year, and Filing Status (Single/MF-Joint/MF-Separated/Widow).

Refund status information for 2023 1040-CM will be available after the first batch is disbursed.

Taxpayers may also contact the DRT Call Center at 670-664-1040.

Secretary Tracy Norita thanked the community for their patience and cooperation during tax season as the Department of Finance continues to process refunds and other tax-related disbursements.
