Text Your words are worlds. We have a mission: Publishing You. Your name. Your work. Current Editors: Rakele Harvey and Aimee Sciberras

The first concrete ideas towards a publication for the English Department at the University of Malta reach back to 2007. Students needed a place to write and be read outside a classroom setting, hence the establishment of TEXT! The project was initiated in print form in August 2009, then moved onto an online platform in March 2010 for the second edition. In short, this journal offers a broader sen

se of knowledge and opportunity to both its readers and contributors. Learn, breathe new ideas and take advantage of the opportunity to be published and read online! We accept works of :
Creative Writing | Literary Criticism and Theory | Cultural Criticism | Reviews and Interviews

Merry Christmas Eve! Welcome to the last day of Textmas! Today, we recommend a twist on an old classic: 'The Muppet Christmas Carol'.

Starring Micheal Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge, this film retells the famous tale as it stars the Muppets in arguably one of the most true-to-source rendition of Dickens' famous Christmas tale. This classic christmas film was actually the first Muppets media made since the passing of the famous Muppeter, Jim Henson.

Thank you to all who read our recommendations this year. Everyone here from TEXT and DESA wishes our followers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

For day 11 of Textmas, we recommend episode 10 of the fourth season of the TV series 'Lost'.

One of the most critically acclaimed episodes of the series 'Lost'. It explores Desmond as his mind jumps between two points in time. His constant mental time jumps cause great danger to him, and the only way to save himself is to connect with an old flame on Christmas Eve.

For Day 10 of Textmas, we recommend the anime film 'Tokyo Godfathers'.

This tragicomic anime film follows three homeless people as they find a lost baby and try to take care of it during Christmas time. It is a sweet and sombre tale of coincidence and found family as these people try their best in a difficult time.

Day 8 of TEXTmas!

One of the reversal episodes of the show where we see the side of “Woman Seeking Man”. While the episode is not necessarily a Christmas tale it plays around with the Santa Claus persona in a postmodern way.

Day 8 of TEXTmas! Today's recommendation is the film 'Smoke' by Wayne Wang and Paul Auster.

Inspired by Paul Auster’s short story named “Auggie Wren’s Christmas Story” the movie can be seen as Paul Auster’s playful way of addressing the prior fictional events or just a bunch of stories mingling together in a to***co shop in Brooklyn.

Day 7 of Textmas!

Today, we have the poem 'A Visit from Saint Nicholas. Written by poet Clement Clarke Moore, this poem is routinely referred to as "The Night Before Christmas" and "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" from its first line.

The poem has been called "arguably the best-known verses ever written by an American" and is largely responsible for some of the conceptions of Santa Claus from the mid-19th century to today.

For Day 5 of Textmas, we have 'Regional Holiday Music", Community (TV Series)

A creative episode by the show Community that is filled with meta-jokes about Christmas and the U.S. TV culture.

Day 4 of TEXTmas! Today's recommendation is 'A Child's Christmas in Wales'.

A short story by the Welsh author Dylan Thomas. It reads like a work that is semi-autobiographical and Thomas’ own reflection on his geography and culture. There is a humorous and articulate use of language that is quite pleasing to read through.

Welcome to Day 3 of Textmas! Today's recommendation is the poem [little tree] by E.E. Cummings.

A concise and sweet poem that mixes the festiveness with sentimentality. It is a short read that is packed with emotion and enticing imagery.

Welcome to the second day of TEXTmas! Today's recommendation is 'Hogfather'. Written by Sir Terry Pratchett as part of his famous Discworld series. The book focuses on the absence of the Hogfather, a mythical creature akin to Father Christmas, who grants children's wishes on Hogswatchnight (December 32) and brings them presents. While Death (yes, THAT Death) attempts to fill in for the Hogfather, his granddaughter Susan Sto Helit tries to find and rescue the Hogfather.

Welcome to the first edition of The 12 Days of TEXTmas. We here from TEXT will be giving a media recommendation every day leading up to Christmas day.

We start it off with 'Die Hard'. It follows follows New York City police detective John McClane (played by Bruce Willis) who is caught up in a terrorist takeover of a Los Angeles skyscraper while visiting his estranged wife. Due to its Christmas Eve setting, Die Hard is also often named one of the best Christmas films, although its status as a Christmas film is disputed.

Our Story

We have a mission: publishing YOU. Your name, your work. Enter TEXT: an outlet for university students to expand and enhance their vision both creatively and academically. From writing about Barthes, Kafka or Lana Del Rey to hallucinogens, luscious seductresses in short stories and sirens in serene idyllic poetry, this journal is set to offer a broader sense of knowledge and opportunity, for both its readers and contributors. The first concrete ideas for a publication for the English Department at the University of Malta reach back to 2007. Students needed a place to write and be read (other than just by lecturers).
