The Foundation of Family
They say you shouldn’t go into business with friends, but for us, there was no other way. My name is Alex Hall, and alongside my brother-in-arms, Joshua, we are building more than a platform—we’re building a sanctuary. Joshua isn’t just a business partner; he’s family. Our bond was forged through a shared language: Music.
Musicians Building for Musicians
We didn’t start this journey in a boardroom; we started it on stage and in the studio. As experienced musicians, we’ve lived the reality of the modern industry. We’ve felt the rush of creating something beautiful, followed by the sting of seeing that work undervalued by a system that pays in fractions of a cent.
We looked at the "starving artist" trope and decided it shouldn't be a rite of passage. If the industry wasn't going to change for us, we had to change the industry ourselves.
The Mission: Equity and Advocacy
Our mission is simple but radical: Every musician deserves to be treated fairly and compensated honestly. We are rewriting the "Value of a Song" so that artists can actually own their future, pay their rent, and keep creating without an "industry tax" stripping them of their livelihood.
The Heart and the Hammer
To make this vision a reality, we divide and conquer. While Joshua focuses on the architecture of our platform, I stay in the trenches to bridge the gap between the code and the community:
As a QA Tester: I am the first line of defense. I test this platform using my own music. If a feature isn’t intuitive or doesn't serve the artist’s best interest, it doesn’t pass. I make sure our tech stays human.
As the Voice (Social & Outreach): I am on a mission to find the voices the world hasn't heard yet. My role is to bring new artists into a community where they are actually seen, heard, and paid.
Growing Together
This is more than a business venture; it’s an adventure. We believe that when the artist wins, the platform wins. We aren’t looking for "users"—we are looking for collaborators to join us in this movement.
We are setli.st... We’re musicians, we’re family, and we’re here to make sure your music works as hard for you as you worked to create it.
