The Lufthansa Group has announced it will exercise its option to acquire a majority stake in ITA Airways this coming June, bringing its stake in the Italian flag carrier from 41 to 90 percent.

The acquisition of the additional 49 percent stake will take place at a previously agreed purchase price of 325 million euros. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals, primarily from the European Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027. Following this, ITA Airways will be fully integrated into the Lufthansa Group, both organizationally and financially.

The Federal Aviation Administration has approved Boeing’s proposed solution to return the world's remaining MD-11 fleet back in the air. Grounded after a deadly UPS crash in November, in which an engine parted from the wing during takeoff, the MD-11 and its progenitor DC-10 were placed under the spotlight, particularly the engine pylons.

While UPS has permanently retired its fleet, FedEx and Western Global were keen to return their aircraft to revenue service. It is understood that other operators specialising in inflight refuelling and aerial firefighting will also have a similar urgent need to return their aircraft to flight.

FedEx Corp. has sent technicians to 16 locations around the world to remove wing-mounted engine pylons from 29 grounded MD-11s. These were then shipped to heavy maintenance facilities in Indianapolis and Memphis, Tennessee, where they were fitted with redesigned Boeing bearings.

The City of Norwich Aviation Museum has taken delivery of Westland Wessex HAS.1 XM300 from Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales, where the airframe had been in storage for 24 years.

XM300 is the fifth Wessex ever built and the oldest existing example of the first iteration of this workhorse helicopter.

XM300 will now undergo a period of conservation to make her weatherproof and secure before we undertake restoration to a more displayable item.

A USAF B-1B Lancer previously stored in the Arizona desert is back in the air after an intensive regeneration and depot maintenance effort led by the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex at Tinker Air Force Base.

The aircraft departed Tinker on April 22nd following nearly two years of work to return it to combat-capable status after storage at the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

Pilots from Tinker’s 10th Flight Test Squadron flew the aircraft in a stripped, bare-metal configuration over Oklahoma, conducting functional check flights to validate systems and performance. Once the aircraft passed these flights and was deemed Fully Mission Capable, it moved to the paint facility. There, three rotating teams worked around the clock to prepare the aircraft for final delivery.
