Two best friends thought they were flying to Nice, France — but instead ended up in Tunis, Tunisia. Their unexpected detour has gone viral on TikTok, racking up over 15 million views. The pair boarded a Tunisair flight in Rome, convinced it was headed to Nice, only to be shocked when they were told the plane was bound for North Africa. At first, they thought it was a joke. “What even is Tunis?” one of them asked, stunned to realise they were crossing the Mediterranean in the wrong direction.
The mix-up appears to have stemmed from a simple misunderstanding. When they asked for tickets “to Nice,” it may have been misheard as “Tunis.” With the names sounding alike, they wound up on the wrong flight. Once seated, they even tried to get off, but flight attendants persuaded them to remain onboard, promising they could “switch planes later.”
The truth sank in only after landing in Tunisia. They explained the mistake to airport staff, but were told no direct flights to Nice remained that day. Left with no choice, they purchased new tickets at their own expense and eventually made it to France. TikTok users are split — some laughing at the misadventure, others sympathising with the hassle. Is it the kind of unforgettable travel tale you’d tell for years, or a nightmare holiday mistake best forgotten?
