Here's the trailer for Pellikola's latest co-production SHAME ON DRY LAND written and directed by Axel Petersén and co-produced with Swedish lead producer Fedra and other Swedish co-producers Swedish Television, Film Stockholm and Strictly Post.

The feature film, shot entirely in Malta will have its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Monday, 11th September 2023. Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare to bring this compelling story to cinemas in Malta in early 2024.

Axel Petersen’s SHAME ON DRY LAND is an upcoming Sweden / Malta co-production to be released in 2023.

Principal photography happened in Malta earlier this year.

Pellikola is co-producing the feature film with Swedish companies Fedra, Swedish Television, Stockholm Film Fund and Strictly Post Production.

The film is supported by the Malta Film Commission through Screen Malta and the cash rebate programme.

A big thank you to all cast and crew for your hard work.

Writer/director Axel Petersén calls it "a redemption drama stuck inside a Mediterranean Noir".

Yay! Luzzu Film is Malta's submission to the The Academy Awards!

"Luzzu" selected as Malta’s submission for the Academy Awards

Following last month's National open call, The Malta Academy Selection Committee is pleased to announce that the film selected as Malta’s submission for the 94th edition of the Oscars under the section 'International Feature Film' is "Luzzu", written and directed by Alex Camilleri.

Luzzu tells the fictional story of Jesmark, a struggling fisherman, who is forced to turn his back on generations of tradition and risk everything by entering the world of black-market fishing to provide for his wife and new-born baby.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invites every country to submit one film to compete in the Best International Feature Film category. A shortlist of 15 finalists is scheduled to be announced on December 21. The final five nominees will be announced on February 8, 2022, culminating in the 94th Academy Awards taking place on March 27, 2022 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The Malta Academy Selection Committee is jointly spearheaded by the Malta Producers's Association (MPA) and the Malta Entertainment Industry and Arts association (MEIA). The selection panel consists of 11 local individuals coming from a variety of diverse backgrounds related to or within the industry. Skill sets range from acting, directing, producing and cinematography as well expertise with Computer Generated Images (CGI), to film critiquing and academia.
