The Civil Service Commission has updated its regulations to provide civil servants with a new 30-day "Special Leave for Health Needs," allowing them to care for immediate family members undergoing extended medical treatment.
According to the 13th amendment to the Civil Service Regulations, employees are now eligible for an annual 30-day leave with full pay if their parent, spouse, child, sibling, or legal dependent requires long-term treatment. To qualify for this leave, employees must submit a medical certificate from a licensed healthcare professional confirming the nature of the illness and the expected duration of treatment. Approval for the leave will be granted after the CSC reviews the submitted documents.
This amendment complements the existing provisions for sick leave outlined in Article 188 (a), which govern the process for granting leave when an employee is unable to work due to illness. Sick leave is still calculated on an annual basis and can be taken even before completing one year of employment.
In addition to the new leave provision, the CSC has also implemented changes related to employee termination. An employee may now be terminated if they are permanently incapacitated due to health reasons, as certified by a healthcare professional and validated by the relevant institution.
These amendments demonstrate the government's dedication to ensuring the well-being of employees while maintaining a balanced approach to work responsibilities and family health needs.
