Ministry drills 720 Kasungu school leaders.

The Director of Teacher Education and Development in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Zizwa Msukuma has highlighted that the lack of leadership skills among school administrators is a key factor behind poor performance in public schools.

Speaking at the official opening of a school leadership refresher training programmevfor 720 school leaders from Kasungu District, Dr. Msukuma said the initiative aims to build capacity among school heads to improve teaching and learning outcomes.

“We have Primary Education Advisors (PEAs), Headteachers, Deputy Headteachers and female Section Heads participating in this training.

'Many of them took part in a similar ten-day programme last year aimed at boosting school performance,” he explained.

Dr. Msukuma said most school leaders in Malawi assume their responsibilities without prior training or orientation a gap the Ministry is now addressing through structured leadership programmes.

He emphasized that these trainings are expected to enhance not only teaching quality and student performance but also community involvement in the education process.

“To support this effort, the Ministry has deployed Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Coordinators in all districts to sustain leadership training and mentoring for school leaders,” he added.

One of the participants, Gertrude Shira Banda, a PEA from Chamakala Zone, praised the training for equipping school leaders with practical leadership tools they previously lacked.

“The Ministry should expect high levels of implementation of what we’ve learned. We are committed to rolling out zonal CPD sessions to ensure no one is left behind,” said Banda.

The training was held in *mMponela, Dowa and aligns with the Ministry’s broader strategy to raise education standards across Malawi’s public primary schools through skilled and empowered leadership.

"I Serve every Malawian equally"–IGP

The newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Richard Luhanga has reaffirmed his commitment to serve all officers and citizens of Malawi equally, urging the Malawi Police Service (MPS) to prioritize teamwork, discipline and measurable performance.

Speaking during his first high level management meeting at the National Police Headquarters in Area 30, Lilongwe, IGP Luhanga addressed Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Heads of Branches from all six policing regions.

“As Inspector General, I will serve every officer and every Malawian equally. I am IGP for everybody,” he declared.

Luhanga emphasized that with the 2025 General Elections concluded, it is time for the MPS to refocus its efforts on delivering high quality services to the public.

He called on all officers to move past the electoral season and concentrate on upholding law and order with renewed energy and commitment.

One of the key reforms announced by the IGP is the streamlining of roadblocks across the country.

The initiative aims to boost operational efficiency, minimize public inconvenience, and reduce opportunities for corruption.

Addressing the issue of discipline, Luhanga reminded officers that wearing the police uniform correctly is not optional but a reflection of the Service’s professionalism and public image.

“Our uniform is our identity,” he stated, underscoring the importance of proper dress code adherence.

To instill a culture of accountability and motivation, the IGP unveiled a performance based approach where recognition and rewards will be directly linked to tangible outcomes.

“Performance, discipline, and integrity will be the new yardsticks,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of implementing and monitoring resolutions from the High Command, ensuring that decisions made at the top levels lead to visible results at the grassroots.

IGP Luhanga concluded by calling on all Commissioners to cascade his message of reform and inspiration down to every police station across the country.

“Together, we can build a Police Service that every Malawian can trust and be proud of,” he affirmed.

Controversy over Mutharika’s relocation order amid national crisis

°°°CSAT says focus should be on hunger and economic recovery

°°°°Mutharika is simply fulfilling his campaign promises--Analysts

Relentless human rights campaigner, Centre for Social Accountability and Transparency (CSAT) has criticized President Peter Mutharika’s directive to relocate key government institutions back to Blantyre and Zomba calling it a misplaced priority at a time when Malawi is grappling with serious national woes including hunger and economic hardship.

CSAT Executive Director W***y Kambwandira said that Malawians are currently more concerned about immediate solutions to hunger and the collapsing economy.

“The government should prioritize allocating resources to programs that can alleviate the suffering of ordinary citizens. That would ensure public funds are spent on truly essential matters,” said Kambwandira.

Governance and political analyst, George Chaima said the decision is not surprising, pointing out that Mutharika had promised during his campaign to return certain government offices to their original locations in the Southern Region if elected.

“A leader must honor campaign promises. What Mutharika has done aligns with what he told the public he would do if elected,” Chaima noted.

President Mutharika has ordered that Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority, Malawi Electoral Commission, Malawi Housing Corporation and Malawi Prison Service be relocated within three months from Lilongwe to Blantyre and Zomba.

Under the previous administration of President Lazarus Chakwera, these institutions were relocated to Lilongwe primarily for reasons related to administrative efficiency and centralization.

However, the move drew criticism from some quarters for allegedly creating regional imbalance and draining economic activity from cities like Blantyre and Zomba.

Chakwera defended the move at the time, saying all cities would prosper under his government and that centralizing operations would not harm the economy.

RBM assures no devaluation .

The Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), McDonald Mafuta Mwale has told the nation that there are no plans to devalue the Malawi Kwacha despite recent fears driven by foreign exchange volatility.

He spoke during a media briefing in Lilongwe where he sought to reassure a worried public about the state of the local currency following the recent elections.

Mwale said that foreign currency inflows have picked up since the elections.

He credited ongoing talks between Finance Minister Joseph Mwanamvekha and international partners and institutions for this positive turn.

He emphasized that both the Ministry of Finance and the central bank are aligned in rejecting premature devaluation.

He addedthat: "Without accompanying interventions to cushion the anticipated shocks, devaluation would be devastating.”

The governor warned some financial institutions suspected of trading with black market forex operators that they face legal action if found culpable.

Under Lazarus Chakwera administration, the Kwacha underwent several large devaluations; among the biggest was a 44% devaluation in November 2023.

The devaluations were accompanied by surging inflation, high import costs and rising prices for essentials.

These shocks fed into public concerns over affordability and living standards.

Black market rates diverged dramatically from the official exchange rate. In some instances, the Kwacha sold for far more in informal markets than in banks or on official venues.

The government implemented interventions to reduce the pain of devaluation such as cash transfers for vulnerable urban households, easing price shocks for essentials and scaling up efforts to attract foreign currency inflow export promotion, development partner support.

These shocks under Chakwera set a high level of sensitivity among the public and businesses whenever there is talk of currency instability or devaluation.

Molare the Rapper speaks out after private video leak, “Ia m broken"

Up and coming female rapper Molare the Rapper has spoken out for the first time following the leak of her private videos that have gone viral on social media.

In an emotional interview with Mikozi Network, the artist shared her side of the story, describing the experience as heartbreaking and humiliating.

She said the ordeal began early in the morning around 6 AM when she received a phone call from someone informing her that sensitive videos of her had surfaced online.

"I was completely shocked. I have never recorded any n**e videos of myself. I couldn’t understand how such content ended up being shared,” she said.

The rapper went on to explain that she had once dated a man with whom she had developed a close relationship.

She added: "During their brief romance, on August 10, i had a video call with him during which i appeared naked."

She said she only did because she trusted him.

“He asked to see me. I didn’t think much of it. I suggested a video call instead of meeting, and I showed myself to him on that call,” Molare recalled.

“What I didn’t know is that he was secretly recording me.”

Trouble started when the two broke up just a week later.

The rapper said the man began threatening her, making disturbing comments and hinting that he had compromising material in his possession.

She said she didn’t take the threats seriously at the time because she had no idea he had recorded the video call.

Today, that fear became a reality. Molare discovered that the video had been leaked online and was being widely shared across multiple platforms.

“When I saw it, I instantly knew it was the video call. I cried,” she said.

“He recorded me without my knowledge and now he’s ruined my life just to hurt me.”

The rapper said she is deeply devastated, especially after receiving calls from her family including her uncles expressing their disappointment and concern.

Fighting back tears, she said, “What I’m posting online is just me trying to be strong, but deep down I’m broken. I’m crying. I feel humiliated.”
