The official election campaign season begins today. It's your role as a citizen to elect the people you believe best present the best hopes for this country. Our job, on the other hand, is to offer you the information that helps you make the right decisions in the most non-partisan way possible. We will still hold the powerful, regardless of their political inclination, to account during the campaign period, but we will do something else, too. Beyond accountability journalism, from today and from now on, alongside our partners–the Media Council of Malawi and Africa Check, we will use our platforms to conduct another civic duty: educate the masses not only about how to vote but also how to fight disinformation and misinformation–vices that can disrupt the election or propel bad leaders into office. That is our part, but as we always say to you, our readers and most important allies, do yours as well: SHARE OUR WORK.

NEW: President Chakwera's Empty 2025 Declaration: What's Missing?

Our latest investigation gets inside President Chakwera's official declaration of assets. He says he and his family acquired no new wealth, loans, property, or gifts in 2024. But a recent visit to his new Mchinji farm and a string of lavish public donations tell a very different story! Is Malawi's Assets Declaration Act being undermined at the highest level? The Platform for Investigative Journalism (PIJ) digs deep into the discrepancies, examining the law and expert opinions.

NEW: Zuneth Sattar's UK Corruption Trial Postponed to 2026!

The highly anticipated corruption trial of British-Malawian businessman Zuneth Sattar in London has been pushed back until September 2026. Sattar is accused of bribing senior Malawian officials to secure multi-million dollar government contracts.

Adding another twist, Sattar's defense claims he's in a "child-like state" after a fall, though prosecutors insist he's fit for trial.

We're all feeling the pinch of fuel shortages and a weakening Kwacha. Yet, the Malawi government is allowing a significant portion of Malawi's crucial to***co crop to be sold in local currency.

NEW: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is withdrawing its operations from Malawi, threatening a catastrophic collapse of essential services and security at the nation's largest refugee camp, Dzaleka.
