Ba Neba maybe you didn't know that Maheu came from Malawi then it later spread out to other African countries.

The company MDI introduced Maheu in Malawi in 1992 as a replacement for Thobwa, which was made from maize, millet, or sorghum. Maheu was a new commercial product, and while it was a Malawian trade name, it rose to prominence in Zambia after a production plant was built there in 1999.

Introduction: The company MDI first introduced Maheu in Malawi in 1992 at the Chichiri trade fair ground.

Purpose: It was introduced as a commercial replacement for Thobwa, a traditional fermented drink, due to shortages of the ingredients needed for Thobwa.

Commercialization: The name "Maheu" was a trade name from Malawi. However, the product later became more prominent in Zambia after the first production plant was built there in 1999.

Product Details: Maheu is a non-alcoholic, cereal-based beverage.
