The Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has written the Clerk of Parliament that the Party will on Saturday hold elections of Parliamentary leadership following direction from the speaker of Parliament.

A letter signed by the Deputy Secretary General of the MCP Gerald Kazembe says the party will therefore inform the Speaker through the Clerk of Parliament on the list of people that have been elected to lead the party in the August house.

"Following the direction from the Right Honourable Speaker on party parliamentary leadership, we would like to communicate that Malawi Congress Party parliamentary party will conduct its election on Saturday, 1st November 2025," reads the letter in part.

In the letter, Kazembe further urges Parliament to respect the Political Parties Act which recognises as official any communication coming from the office of the Secretary General of the MCP and not otherwise.

According to sources within the MCP and Parliament, this communication means that the Parliament will open tomorrow without a leader of Opposition until the Secretary General of the MCP presents to Parliament a name of a person who is going to assume that office and other positions.

Various stakeholders from both public and private sectors-Civil society and media have launched Malawi Circular Economy Network (MCEN) which seeks to promote waste management interventions in the country.

Speaking during the launch of the network in Lilongwe, Malawi Circular Economy Network chairperson Olive Kawerama said the network has been formed after realizing that the public and private sectors were working in isolation which was affecting their efforts and the environment at large.

Kawelama said the network will create a platform where public and private sectors will be coming together to work towards sustainable solutions on how the country should be developed and industrialized.

While describing the network as a critical partner in achieving national and regional aspirations, Ministry of Natural Resources and Climate Change secretary Richard Pelekamoyo challenged network members to work with the Malawi Bureau of Standards and the Malawi Environment Protection Authority to develop measurable indicators for circularity.

The network was initiated by Waste Advisors as part of the European Union Funded building better project which aims to promote circular economy practices in Malawi.
