Chairperson for Advocacy for Eastern Region Development (AFERD), Madalitso Banda, has accused the authorities at the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) for an overstay on the positions.

For so long, PAC has been Malawi's moral compass on governance, accountability, and democratic order.

Banda, who is also HRDC Chairperson in the Eastern Region, says in interview that today, the very same institution that holds others to account stands accused of a glaring governance failure.

PAC's current executive, led by Monsignor Patrick Thawale, was elected in December 2019 for a three-year term that expired in December 2022.

In a separate interview, PAC Executive Director Robert Phiri has defended the continued stay in office by invoking Article 15.4 of the PAC Constitution.

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has said increasing the country’s pool of netball officials is key to enhancing the growth and professionalism of the sport.

NAM President Vitumbiko Gubuduza said this is crucial to development, as the association is struggling to produce enough qualified coaches and umpires to meet the growing national demand for netball.

She made the remarks in Blantyre after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NAM and the Tertiary Students Sports Association of Malawi (Tessam), which oversees sports in public and private tertiary institutions.

Tessam Vice President Geoffrey Biya said the initiative will help establish a sustainable pathway for tracking athletes from tertiary institutions to elite leagues, while also strengthening talent identification systems.

Delivery of Health services in Dowa District are expected to improve following a donation of assorted hospital equipment worth approximately K3 billion to Dowa District Hospital by Patriot Organization.

The donated items includes hospital beds, chairs and other essential equipment.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Patriot Organization Board member Henry Mdebwe said the donation was made in recognition of the fact that the government alone cannot meet all the needs of public hospitals.

Meanwhile, Senior Chief Chakhaza from the district, commended the organization for the gesture and pledged to ensure that the donated items at the facilities are protected from theft and vandalism.

Pig farmers and traders in Nsanje can now afford a smile as authorities in the district have lifted a 3-month ban that was imposed to contain the spread of an African Swine Fever outbreak.

Director of Agriculture Services in the district, James Lichapa, says the ban, which prohibited movement, slaughter, and selling of pigs, has been lifted today after 12 consecutive reports of zero cases from vigilant surveillance.

The ban was imposed on February 28 after 12 cases of ASF were recorded in Mpatsa EPA in the area of Traditional Authority Tengani.
