Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) has unveiled bottled water called Dzalanyama Springs after investing K4 billion of its income into a water bottling plant.

Chief Executive Officer, Silli Mbewe, said at the unveiling event that the investment falls under public sector reforms commitment the company signed with the central government and will drive attainment of its medium and long term strategic goals.

Comptroller of statutory corporations, Peter Simbani extolled the company for a bold move that would boost revenue and economic impact, urging other parastatals to take the same root and move from loss making mode.

The company invited potential customers and partners in the bottled water business to sample the products and tour the production line, as it attempted to attain customer confidence.

The board chairperson of LWB, Inkosi ya Makosi Mbelwa V unveiled the product, graced by principal secretary for water and sanitation Elias Chimulambe and urged government institutions and the entire private sector to support the investment.

The National Anti-Corruption Alliance, a civil society network advocating for a corruption-free Malawi and effective governance, has asked presidential candidates to declare their assets ahead of the Tuesday's General Elections.

The network earlier made the call in July asking the candidates to make the declarations by August 31,2025, but no one to heed, hence extending the call.

The 2013, the Public Officers’ (Declaration of Assets, Liabilities and Business Interests) Act demands public officers, such as the President and his Vice, to confidentially declare their
assets to the Office of the Director of Public Officers’ Declarations.

However, the network in a statement signed by its chairperson, Michael Kaiyatsa, asks the candidates to make voluntary public disclosures as this would reinforce credibility, enhance public trust, and honour the spirit — not just the
letter of the law.

The network insists by declaring assets before seeking the highest office, the candidates demonstrate transparency, integrity and genuine commitment to accountability.

"Such voluntary action would set a new standard of leadership in Malawi, proving that the fight against
corruption begins with personal example," reads part of their statement.

17 people have shown interest in contesting for the presidential seat in the September 16 elections.

Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has launched the construction of a modern computer laboratory at Chanukha Primary School in the area of Traditional Authority Nsunganzeru, Mulanje District.

The project, which is also targeting six other community day secondary schools in the region, is expected to bridge the digital divide by equipping learners with essential ICT skills and improving access to online educational resources.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Chanukha Community Day Secondary School Head Teacher, John Gunde, commended MACRA for the initiative, describing it as a milestone that will enhance academic performance.

Former Member of Parliament for Mulanje South Constituency, Santiago Phiri, also hailed the development, saying it fulfills a long-held dream for the area.

The state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for digital learning, providing students with practical computer knowledge that is increasingly vital in education and the job market.

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has announced plans to construct 120 computer labs in schools across the country under the Connect-A-School project.

This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide and provide ICT access to over six million school-going children who currently lack it.

Kelious Mlenga deputy director of legal services at MACRA made the remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony of the laboratory at Ntonda Community Day Secondary School in Ntcheu district

According to the school's headteacher, Precious Fandika, computer lessons have been a challenge due to the limited resources in the lab, which has 30 computers.

With only 5 secondary schools in the district offering computer studies, the new computer lab being constructed by MACRA is expected to benefit the school and enhance students' learning experience.

Each lab will have a capacity of up to 60 computers, and an amount of K400 million kwacha is estimated for the initiative of each lab

The construction of the labs will be done within 6 months with free WI-FI in the first 3 months, and Traditional Authority Phambala had promised to provide support wherever needed.
