TEACHER FOUND DEAD, IN A DECOMPOSED STATE.
Robert Chaopa, a primary school teacher at Mpale Primary School under Chimwala Zone in Mangochi was found dead in his house and in a decomposed state yesterday.

Reports from neighbours of the deceased indicate that they started smelling bad odour from the house and asked the landlord to open the door whereby they found the late Chaopa lifeless and in a decomposed state.
Chimwala Police and health officers are yet to release post-mortem results on what has caused Chaopa's death.
Before his death, Chaopa was not seen by his friends for about three consecutive days. He died at the age of 36 and he has left a wife and twin boys. He will be laid to rest in Nkhotakota.

It's now official

Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has formally taken his oath as the seventh President of the Republic of Malawi, presided over by Chief Justice Rizine Mzikamanda during the inauguration ceremony at Kamuzu Stadium.

Before him, Vice president Justice Dr. Jane Ansah did the same as they both pledges to faithfully execute the functions of their offices while upholding Malawi's Constitution, and serve the nation without fear, favor, affection, or ill will.

MUTHALIKA LEADS


Opposition candidate Arthur Peter Mutharika, fondly known as APM, is within striking distance of reclaiming the presidency, he lost in the fresh Presidential election in 2020.

With results from 24 of 36 councils declared, APM has already secured 2 138 746 votes — 66.7 percent of the 3 206 686 valid ballots counted so far.

To cross the constitutional 50+1 threshold of 2 344 587 votes, APM now needs just 205 841 votes from the remaining 12 councils.

President Lazarus Chakwera, by contrast, faces an uphill battle as he requires 1 609 931 votes from those same councils to reach the same benchmark.

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) data shows that 3 293 767 Malawians voted in the declared Councils, with 83 781 ballots rejected as void votes, representing about 2.5 percent of total votes cast.

All eyes are now on the final 12 councils. Will APM maintain his commanding lead, or can Chakwera defy the odds?

With **30% voter apathy** (≈70% turnout), the five districts with issues would be expected to contribute about **780,935 votes** out of their 1,115,623 registered voters.

Expect more Districts to be Further Examined.
