The United States Embassy in Malawi has paid tribute to the late Brian Banda, who was the Director General of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation.

The embassy said Banda worked with them by interviewing several US Ambassadors.

"We celebrate his life, legacy and many contributions to Malawi's media landscape," part of the statement from the embassy reads.

The body of Brian Banda, who was the Director General of Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, has been laid to rest at M'banda Village in Chileka, Blantyre.

In his eulogy, Secretary to the Government Justin Saidi said President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is deeply touched by his death and the country has lost a talented person who helped to shape the media industry.

Among those who attended the funeral were Former Vice President Michael Usi, senior party members of the Democratic Progressive, Peter Mukhito, Joseph Mwanamvekha, Roza Mbilizi, Charles Mchacha and other members of opposition parties, various media house managers and religious leaders.

Banda is survived by a wife and 6 Children.

Reunion Insurance says it stands with the bereaved family of the late Brian Banda, who has been laid to rest today at Msungwi Cemetery, M'banda Village in Chileka, Blantyre.

The company, through a press statement, said Banda, who was the Director General of MBC, will be greatly missed due to his contributions to Malawi's media industry.

"We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and the media fraternity in Malawi," reads part of the statement.

Tributes continue to pour in for the family of Brian Banda and his colleagues at the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), where he served as Director General.

Radio Maria, in a statement, said they pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and for God’s comfort and strength upon his family, MBC staff and the entire media fraternity.

While Sunnymoney said they honour his service and contribution to the Malawi broadcasting industry and the nation at large.

Banda's burial ceremony is underway at Msungwi Cemetery, M'banda Village, Chileka in Blantyre.
