I’m proud to have been part of a two-day training on leveraging the Access to Information Law in sustainable energy reporting, organized by the Association of Environmental Journalists in Malawi (AEJ-Malawi) with support from Oxfam in Malawi Civil Society Network on Climate Change - Cisonecc, Centre for Environmental Policy and Advocacy and the European Union in Malawi.
The training was an incredible opportunity to gain practical skills that help journalists uncover energy challenges, promote accountability, and amplify the voices of communities striving for clean and sustainable energy. I’m also honored to have received a Certificate of Attendance, which motivates me even more to continue reporting impactful environmental stories.
As part of the program, we visited Sitolo Village in Mchinji District to see the life-changing Sitolo Solar Minigrid Project. This 80-kilowatt minigrid has connected over 1,200 households in Sitolo, Ndawambe, and Molosiyo villages, transforming a community that spent decades waiting for electricity into a model for rural electrification in Malawi.
I was excited to contribute through my photography skills, capturing the inspiring stories and moments of the visit. Visual storytelling is such a powerful way to show how renewable energy can change lives, and I’m proud to have been part of this journey.
Clean energy is not just about technology — it’s about empowering communities and creating opportunities. I look forward to sharing more stories that inspire change across Malawi!
