KARONGA PRESS CLUB DONATES ESSENTIAL ITEMS TO ELDERLY WOMEN IN KARONGA.

Journalists from the Karonga Press Club have marked this year’s Mother’s Day by donating essential items to two elderly women in Karonga District.

The donation, which included soap, sugar, salt, and maize, was given to 90-year-old Midness Malema from Group Village Head Malema 1, and Magret Mwanganda, in her late 70s, from Bwiba.

Speaking in an interview, Karonga Press Club General Secretary, Walughano Lumbira, emphasized the importance of supporting the elderly and urged communities to refrain from stigmatizing or accusing them of witchcraft.

“As journalists and community members, we understand the challenges the elderly face. We felt it was important to offer what little we have to support them,” said Lumbira.

Hilder Malema, a guardian to Midness, expressed her gratitude for the donation, noting that the items would help ease some of the burdens they face.

The Karonga Press Club hopes this gesture will inspire others in the community to care for and support the elderly.
