With 48 women elected in the September 2025 elections up from 40 in 2019 and a notable increase in youth representation, Malawi is making steady strides toward a more inclusive and transformative democracy. This progress signals a promising shift toward a gender-balanced, intergenerational political landscape.
These gains are a testament to the collective efforts behind the ‘2025 Ndi Ifeyo’ campaign, supported by the European Union, the Embassy of Iceland, and Irish Aid through Oxfam and its local partners: Women’s Legal Resources Centre (WOLREC) and the Centre for Civil Society Strengthening (CCSS). The campaign has played a pivotal role in engaging political parties and traditional leaders, mentoring and training women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) aspiring for political office, and creating spaces for their meaningful participation in leadership.
Oxfam and Partners warmly congratulate all elected women, youth, and PWDs, and reaffirm our commitment to deepening inclusive democracy ensuring that every voice is heard and counted in shaping Malawi’s future.
