HTD NEXT ON ACB RADAR

The company that became famous with the cute KIA brand of cars in the country after 2007, HTD and was funding Arthur Peter Mutharika in 20013 onwards is now being investigated for supplying cars to the Malawi Defence Force, Police Services, Prison Services and State House without going through the internal procurement process. All this has been unearthed by two former police chiefs. The company through its boss Harris Sidik used to deal with Peter Mukhito and never completed the " internal process " due to excitement.

In the meantime, Harris Sidik is the centre of investigations after the cars were being sold to the government at a huge inflated price and the toxic profits was shared between Mukhito and Harris Sidik.
Last week ACB and Fiscal Police followed up all the transactions and there were very q***r revelation since other than the payment voucher and the delivery notes there were nothing like the Internal Procurement Committee minutes and bids opening reports or the whole tendering process feed back. The then Office of the Director of Public Procurement had only one letter for cars bought for State House which had attached a letter asking for no objection for single sourcing.

Otherwise, it was just phone calls that dominated the transactions and in short it was verbal discussions and subsequent agreements at hotel cars or filling stations.
Government lost close to MK29 billion while the actual price at the prevailing rate then was MK8 billion.
This coming week is enter Harris Sidiki exist Batatawala. Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda the Attorney General has already listed HTD for blacklisting. Check this space.
