PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
15th JUNE 2026

RAISE THE FLAG - IGNITING NATIONAL MINDSET REVOLUTION FOR MALAWI.

BLANTYRE, MALAWI – Sixty-two years after independence and 32 years into democracy, Malawi has no shortage of bold development blueprints. What it needs now is a revolutionary national mindset shift.
In its 2nd year of the campaign, Raise The Flag initiative is challenging Malawians to become “First World Citizens” not someday, but starting now!

The theme for this year’s Raise the Flag is Becoming First World Malawians, a national mindset change program now entering its second year under Wealth Magazine, a local entrepreneurial and business magazine. The campaign asks one uncomfortable, urgent question: If Singapore could move from third world to first world in one generation, what is Malawi waiting for?

His Excellency President Arthur Peter Mutharika has repeatedly expressed the desire to see Malawi become like Singapore,” the campaign notes. “Both nations gained independence in the 1960s. Today Singapore is a global benchmark with a first world status whilst Malawi still carries a third world least development country (LDC) status. The difference was never just policy. It has been mindset.”

Where Do We Get It Wrong?
The Hardest Export Barrier Is Not Tariffs But Mindset Models.

Raise The Flag argues that the Mw 2063 dream of “an inclusively wealthy and self-reliant nation” will stall without “mindset wealth.” The campaign’s core belief is simple and disruptive: Don’t wait for Malawi to become first world. Become a first world Malawian — and Malawi will follow. “Wealth without the right mindset fails,” emphasises the program. “We don’t wait to become a first-world country to act like first-world citizens but rather become first-world citizens and build the country.”

The FLAG Framework focuses on orientation and not necessarily location. The program distills first-world competence into 4 pillars any Malawian can live, lead and build with among others as follows:
1. F – First-Class Standards: From “Malawi standard” to world standard. Punctuality. Quality control. Data over opinions. Customer obsession in every queue, clinic, and boardroom.
2. L – Legacy Thinking: From survival to succession. Build institutions, not moments. 10-year plans. ESG. Intergenerational wealth that outlives you.
3. A – Accountability & Urgency: With MIP 1 already behind, blame is a luxury Malawi cannot afford. “What is my part?” Civic duty, boardroom courage, zero tolerance for corruption and a sense of urgency as a culture.
4. G – Global Competence: From local limits to global scale, enhancing digital skills, coding, export mindset and benchmarking against countries that have progressed in the continent like Rwanda and of course globally like Singapore.

Target Audience and Delivery Scale.
The program targets key groups of decision makers in boardrooms through executives, professionals and entrepreneurs, youth & students, public servants and diaspora champions. With 60% of Malawi under 25, youth and students in universities and TEVET institutions are a primary focus.

Raise The Flag will use diverse delivery channels such as Masterclasses, Flag bearer circles, a First World Malawi Podcast, National Flag Challenges, Flag Bearer Awards, a Civic Education pack for students and an Inaugural Presidential Lecture on Mindset Change among others.

Strategic Partners
The initiative will endeavour to partner with government, private sector, civil society and Media institutions as its partners.
