The greatest lessons we can learn from this is there is power in team ups. First of all let us understand what bank nkhondes really are and how they came about.
A village bank is usually made of a group of individuals who contribute money every month. The amount is decided by the members. Lets say k20 000 a month. When each member contributes the money is then shared out amongst the members as loans with a very fair interest on top. So each member is obligated to take a loan at some point so that everyone equally contributes to growth of the savings.

We hear from alot of people trying to either sell us a product of a company or recruit us. Whether you are skeptical or not network marketing is legal and practiced by alot of companies globally. Companies save marketing costs by recruiting independent sales person to sale their products. You can either sale their products or recruit others to join the MLM(multi level Marketing) . Some people do both. Network marketing is loved because of freedom to do business at your own hours and you get to choose which product to promote. In Malawi we hear of Avon, Oriflame, longrich just to mention a few, you cant be online without products from such big names advertised. You can also start your own network marketing company . Disadvantage is the liability that the individual has to shoulder when they fail to sale the products. Recruiting other members is not easy. Sometimes one can fall into traps of fraudsters. Today we caught up with Wyness Nkhwazi from Lilongwe who was introduced to online business last year through a friend and this is what she had to say.

How long have you been in this business?

Wyness nkhwazi: One year now. I started doing online business last year.My business is called Divine Fashions

What sort of business do you do online?

Wyness nkhwazi : i order different clothing items from china, poturgal and Italy especially men's shoes. I sell to my clients in the offices. I get all my items through Tanzania.

How did you start your online business?

Wyness nkhwazi : i was introduced to this business by a close friend of mine.

What are some of the challenges doing online business?

Wyness nkhwazi : People giving their orders late when shops are out of stock. We mostly have only two days window period to place orders. People failing to pay up once their orders arrive.covid19 has affected transport and other logistics. The supply chain is hence affected.

How do you do your business differently?

Wyness nkhwazi : i dont take deposits. Its only cash upon delivery. It takes about two weeks only for my orders to arrive.in the beginning my main clients were in the offices. I have now just created a WhatsApp group and everyone is free to join.https://chat.whatsapp.com/DCIWy80H4e82yf7q4HnkZu

There is power in numbers. Alot of ladies in Malawi are taking advantage of the economic Empowerment that comes from working in groups. We have bank nkhonde groups and Groceries sharing groups just to mention a few. These groups shares the economic burden of achieving a, certain objective amongst members. Corporate worlds are slowly adopting the concepts. members of these groups enjoy access to easy loans with negligible interest. Such initiatives need special recognition cause they are making a great difference in alot of peoples lives.
