Karonga United secure first home win of the season

Godfrey Sibale scored a dramatic 90th-minute header as Karonga United secured a 1-0 victory over Red Lions in the FDH Bank Premiership encounter played at Karonga Stadium on Sunday.

The win was Karonga’s first home win of the season, following a draw against Mafco FC and a defeat to Masters FC, while for the newly promoted Zomba-based side, the loss ended an unbeaten start to their top-flight return, having won two and drawn three of their first five matches.

The Ingwinas of Karonga dominated proceedings in front of a sizeable crowd but wasted several opportunities, with Kennedy Mwakabaghe, Lennox Kiwambe and Walusungu Gondwe all guilty of missing chances in the first half.

The home side’s wastefulness in front of goal was nearly punished in the 87th minute but goalkeeper Eddie Jamu produced a stunning save to deny Shukuran M***a, who had been played clean through on goal.

That intervention proved decisive as, three minutes later, Sibale rose highest to head home a pinpoint right-wing cross from captain Pilirani Thulu to spark jubilant scenes among the home supporters.

Karonga coach Audro Makonyola hailed his side’s persistence in hunting for a goal despite missing a number of goal-scoring opportunities.

"We were superb today and a draw would have been hard to take, but my players never gave up in pushing for a goal and we were finally rewarded for our efforts," he said.

However, Red Lions coach Malumbo Mkandawire, lamented the officiating in the encounter.

"The referees were against us today from the start of the game. We never got any decisions go our way. We defended well and should have at least taken a point," a frustrated Mkandawire said.

With the win Karonga United move up to 8th on the league standings with 8 points from 6 games, while Red Lions drop to 7th with 9 points to their name from the same number of matches.

Uganda's Ministry of Health has warned male Ebola survivors to avoid s*x for at least six months, or use condoms consistently, after experts found the virus can remain in semen long after symptoms disappear.

Health officials fear survivors who appear fully recovered could still unknowingly transmit the deadly disease to their partners, sparking new infections.

The warning comes as East Africa remains on high alert over Ebola, with authorities racing to prevent fresh outbreaks and break every possible chain of transmission.

Chasefu man kills ex wife after finding her having s*x with boyfriend

A 24-YEAR-OLD woman of Chasefu District in Eastern Province has been axed to death by her 24 year old ex-husband after he found her with another man in the bush.

It was reported that the incident occurred on Friday at around 22:00 hours.

Eastern Province police commanding officer, Robertson Mweemba said that Moses Chirwa hacked Bafiske Nkhata of Zakeyo village during an intimate encounter.

"Brief facts of the matter are that the deceased was visited by her boyfriend, Thomas Phiri, 33, of Langwani village not knowing that Chirwa was also in the area and was secretly following them," he said.

Mweemba said when it was time for Phiri to leave, the deceased decided to accompany him and the two decided to go in the nearby bush where they started having s*x.

Mweemba explained that this infuriated Chirwa, who was secretly observing their movements.

" He decided to get an axe which he borrowed from his friend within the same village and charged at the unsuspecting couple," Mweemba said.

The commanding officer explained that the suspect swung the axe forward to Phiri who was on top of his ex-wife but ducked and in the process hit his ex-wife on the head who died instantly.

Mweemba explained that Phiri decided to run back to his house in Langwani Village while the suspect also ran away from the scene and decided to hide the axe in the nearby shrubs and went back to his house in Matemanga village.

He said the body of the deceased was later discovered yesterday at around 08:00 hours, by the reporter who decided to inform the police who later visited the scene.

"Upon inspecting the body and the scene, foul play was suspected. The body of the deceased was later taken to Chasefu mini hospital where it has been deposited into the mortuary awaiting postmortem examination results," Mweemba said.

He added that Phiri took himself to the police after a manhunt was launched, while the suspect decided to flee to Keyala village near Malawi.

Mweemba said disclosed that the suspect was later apprehended by the police and taken to Chasefu Police Station where the two were interrogated until the revelation of what had happened.

He said the suspect has since been detained at Chasefu Police Station awaiting to be transferred to Lundazi Police Station, as investigations are ongoing.

Popular social media content creator Tenge Tenge, also known as Rango Tenge Tenge is stranded after his manager, Michael Kabonge blocked him for accessing his social media accounts.

The 12-year-old is popular for his large expressive eyes, energetic dance moves and hilarious content commands huge following online with over 4.2m subscribers on YouTube and 9.6m on Instagram and 10m on TikTok.

Now, there’s trouble in paradise after his father reveals that he fell out with his manager over financial misunderstandings.

“Manager Michael Kabonge took over all the social media accounts claiming they belong to him and even tried to change the channel names. Years back, he gave us about Shs27m from YouTube earnings after we had fired him because we had started noticing irregularities,” he said.

He alleged that Kabonge last paid them a significant amount about three years ago.

“Sometimes we fail to raise school fees for Tenge Tenge yet he is one of the biggest influencers in Uganda. That is why we want Micheal to return the accounts so that we get someone else who can manage them fairly,” he pleaded.

For his part, Kabonge argues that he created the accounts himself and the teenager reportedly sided with his father to block him from any earnings.

“I started this and created the accounts myself. I was hurt the most when Tenge Tenge left me, especially after all the plans I had and the fact that they even wanted to take over the accounts I built,” he said.

Kabonge further stated that he has been sharing money with the kid’s father and recently they received up to Shs70m from ambassadorial proceedings.
