ππ National Library Launches Malawi Folktales & Folksongs Database! πΆπ
By Patience Longwe
The National Library Service has just launched a brand-new database to preserve Malawi's rich cultural heritage. This project, funded by Rei Foundation Limited and supported by the Malawi National Commission for UNESCO and Music Crossroads Malawi, will help safeguard our treasured folktales and folksongs for future generations. π«
Whatβs it about?
This incredible collection of stories and songs gathered from districts across Malawi, will be accessible to the public through computers at the National Library Service and our database. Now, you can learn about the cultural wisdom and traditions passed down through generations! π
Why is this important?
Lovemore Mazibuko, Director of Museums and Monuments, says that preserving intangible cultural heritage plays a key role in sustainable socio-economic development for Malawi. Senior Assistant Executive Secretary at UNESCO, Christopher Magomelo, adds that this project is vital in protecting our cultural identity.
This marks an important milestone in keeping Malawi's traditions alive! πβ¨
