Kamangila munthu was jealous
Dear Alexius Kamangila,

The attacks against the Attorney General are increasingly looking baseless and politically motivated. Kamangila, having previously worked with the AG at the same law firm, should perhaps appreciate that careers take different paths.

The Attorney General has continued to rise professionally and is now occupying one of the most important legal offices in the country. Personal bitterness or disappointment should never be turned into a campaign of allegations against someone who has moved forward.

If there were genuine concerns, they would be supported by evidence and addressed through the proper channels. Social media accusations will not change the AG’s record, nor will they stop him from performing his duties. Iwe Kamangila ndanzako mulira ndipo mukukuta mano, but the AG will continue doing his work.

MWAUNGULU SAYS
"it is very perplexing"
Retired Supreme Court Justice Dunstain Mwaungulu has issued a warning that the intensifying dispute over the National Assembly's authority to establish ad hoc committees could precipitate a profound constitutional impasse between Parliament and the Presidency.

In a recent Facebook post, Justice Mwaungulu characterized the government's latest assertion, which contests the Speaker's power to form committees, as perplexing and potentially destabilizing.

According to Mwaungulu, the Executive appears to acknowledge Parliament's oversight role while simultaneously disputing the National Assembly's specific authority to constitute ad hoc committees.

Mwaungulu contends that the government's interpretation of Section 56(6) of the Constitution, which vests the power to establish committees in 'Parliament,' is problematic.

He argues that the provision's context implies that this authority resides with the National Assembly, rather than a broader definition of Parliament that includes the President and Senate. The retired judge also queries why the Chief Secretary issued a statement without first ascertaining Parliament's official position on standing and ad hoc committees.

He cautions that statements from one arm of government should not be utilized to undermine the constitutional authority of another, warning that such actions risk exacerbating tensions between the Executive and the Legislature.
