Tune in tonight at 17.15 right here on Logos Open Culture page to attend a public lecture with Professor Yusuf Juwayeyi on archaeology and oral tradition in Malawi.

Prof Juwayeyi will draw on his many years of research into prehistoric economies during the Later Stone Age and Iron Age periods in sub-Saharan Africa. He has carried out archaeological excavations in Malawi at Stone Age and Iron Age sites. He is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Long Island University, Brooklyn, New York and is visiting Malawi at present.

Prof Juwayeyi’s most recent work, 'Archaeology and Oral Tradition in Malawi: Origins and Early History of the Chewa' (Boydell & Brewer, 2020) is on sale in Lilongwe at Chambo Market. It is the first comprehensive account of the origins and early history of the Chewa as revealed by oral tradition and archaeology that allows a more accurate picture of a pre-literate society.

Logos Open Culture's hub The Culture Lab is hosting the event in collaboration with Kweza and Mizu Live.

Today Logos Open Culture's Director Muti Etter-Phoya is presenting on the Global Data Barometer at Malawi's 2nd Machine Learning Indaba.

Today's lead story in Nation Publications Limited brings home why data is needed for the public good. Malawi has had a Political Parties Act since 2018, but no political party has yet reported information on party financing. This information is necessary to identify whose interests are shaping how Malawi is governed and help Malawians to hold the government accountable.

Local Development Research Institute is the regional research hub for the Global Data Barometer and Logos Open Culture is carrying out the research for Malawi.

Today Logos Open Culture Director Muti Etter-Phoya will present at Malawi’s 2nd IndabeX on our work on the Global Data Barometer. Muti is the lead researcher for the Global Data Barometer‘s research in Malawi through the regional research hub hosted by Kenyan Local Development Research Institute...
