Yonasi Banda might be the most obedient servant, without a criminal record in the 26 years he has absconded sleep to earn a living as a watchman. His silver jubilee and a year of work have reaped no good fruits but a loot of agony with no one to help him bear it; not even the Government of Malawi through its Ministry of labour or human rights defenders.

The work of Public Interest is also called Accountability Reporting...it can be confrontational and accusatory, it provokes enemity of the rich and powerful. Theodore Roosevelt dubbed it muckracking in 1906 and that was no compliment. It is risky, stressful, expensive and difficult, it faces resistance in the newsrooms ( and that's why we have taken it!) and tries the patience of bureaucrats, bean counters, and hacks...
