Government has challenged UTM President, Dalitso Kabambe, to provide evidence of alleged corruption and nepotism under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration.

In a statement dated 13 October 2026 and signed by the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Shadric Namalomba, it says the DPP government inherited economic challenges, including fuel shortages, high prices and foreign exchange constraints.

It cites a reduction in the fiscal deficit from 12.5% to 9% of GDP and a decline in annual inflation to 20% in August 2026 as signs of economic progress.

“Government rejects the assumption that an accusation is proof of misconduct,” reads part of the statement, urging Kabambe to submit supporting evidence to the relevant authorities.

Kabambe recently told one of the local media houses that corruption and nepotism had worsened under the DPP-led government.

Nigerian Preacher, Wise Man Daniel, is expected to visit Malawi in November this year for a two-day spiritual crusade aimed at promoting spiritual transformation in the country.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lilongwe today, Elohim Ministry representative, Ubani Ruth, said an advance team from Nigeria had arrived in Malawi to prepare for the crusade dubbed "Malawi for Green and Pastures," scheduled for 6 to 7 November, 2026.

Another representative, Herbert Mezaya, said the programme would also include a pastors’ conference on 9 November at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, where religious leaders are expected to meet and share ideas on faith and ministry.

The organisers have further announced a charity event scheduled for 13 November 2026 to meet the needs of needy people.

The High Court in Lilongwe has set aside the order committing Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary Bushiri, for extradition to South Africa, citing serious legal and procedural errors in the lower court’s decision.

According to court documents Timveni Online has seen, Justice Mzonde Mvula, in his ruling, argues that “constitutional rights cannot be sacrificed on the altar of expediency, even in the important domain of international extradition.”

The judgment has also faulted the lower court for failing to provide detailed reasons for its findings on several issues, including the admissibility of evidence and the sufficiency of the allegations supporting extradition.

The ruling follows a review application by the Bushiris challenging the magistrate’s decision to commit them to custody pending their surrender to South Africa, where they are expected to face various criminal charges.

The couple are wanted in South Africa to face various criminal charges, which they have disputed.

The Forum for Democracy and Rights Defenders (FDRD) has urged Parliament’s Public Appointments Committee (PAC) to appoint a commissioner of the Judicial Independent Complaints Commission who possesses high integrity and a strong sense of humanity.

FDRD General Secretary, Ceaser Kondowe, says appointing a person with these qualities will help ensure that the Commission serves the public effectively and upholds justice.

Kondowe’s remarks come as the Public Appointments Committee conducts interviews for the position today, with six individuals scheduled to be interviewed.

Among other responsibilities, the Commission is mandated to investigate complaints lodged by members of the public or any authority against individuals employed in the Judicial Service.

Three former Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) members, Timothy Mtambo, Gift Trapence and McDonald Sembereka, have asked the Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court to cancel arrest warrants issued against them in a case that is said to have been discontinued in 2020.

The lawyer for the three, Khwima Mchizi, has told Timveni Online that the warrants, issued on 7 October, 2026, accuse his clients of breaching bail conditions despite the state having discontinued the case.

Mchizi has questioned the basis for the warrants, arguing that his clients should not face arrest over a matter that is no longer active.

“It is surprising that the State is trying to arrest them when the case was discontinued,” Mchizi said.

The lawyer says the court has scheduled Friday to hear the application challenging the warrants.

Meanwhile, National Police Spokesperson, Gladys Chiwaula, previously told Timveni Online that she was unaware of both the arrest warrants and the court proceedings.
