Police have arrested nine more suspects, bringing the total to 14, for allegedly spreading false information about the disappearance of male private parts, causing fear and panic among the public.

The arrested suspects include Boniface Beka, Clement Kaduya (39), Precious Kaduya (39), Shadrick Sande (20), Chisomo Eliasi (18), Jeremiah Esaya (20), Edward Fatsani (20), Nelson Andiseni (18), and Beatrice Geoffrey (42), all from Nsanje District.

According to Deputy National Police Spokesperson, Alfred Chinthere, the arrests follow reports made on Sunday by the suspects, who claimed that their private parts had disappeared after coming into contact with other people.

Chinthere says police referred the complainants to Nsanje District Hospital for a medical examination, which confirmed that all their private parts were intact and that no abnormalities were found.

There are on-going myths and allegations of magical acts circulating in the district, which are causing panic among members of the public in Nsanje and Chikwawa districts.

The Blantyre High Court has ordered the main opposition party, Malawi Congress Party (MCP), to hold elections for all positions in all Regional Committees and all District Committees within twelve months.

In his ruling, Justice Muhome agreed that the five-year tenure of office for all office bearers in all Regional Committees of the MCP, as well as the tenure of office for all office bearers in all District Committees of the party, had expired.

This follows a complaint lodged at the Blantyre High Court by one of the MCP members, Lovemore Chauwa Phiri, who accused the party of failing to conduct the elections.

Commenting on the matter, political analyst Czar Kondowe said it is worrisome that such a political party has failed to comply with the law.

Kondowe said this should serve as a lesson to other major political parties that they are expected to be custodians of the law.

Youth-led organization, Social Empowerment and Development Initiative (SEDI), has condemned the rising wave of mob justice in Malawi, where innocent citizens are being brutally beaten and killed over false accusations of practicing witchcraft.

SEDI has described the acts as “unconstitutional,” arguing that every individual is entitled to the “right to life and no person shall be arbitrarily deprived of his or her life.”

Executive Director for SEDI, Idrissah Mndala, has since urged the government, through the Ministry of Homeland Security, Malawi Police Service, Ministry of Justice, and Malawi Human Rights Commission, to urgently launch nationwide awareness campaigns with local leaders to promote legal reporting channels.

The call follows incidents in Chikwawa and Nsanje, where community members have killed four people over allegations of witchcraft.

Silver Strikers have suffered their first defeat in the FDH Bank Premiership after losing 1 nil to Blue Eagles at CIVO Stadium.

Silver Strikers came into the match with an impressive record, having won their opening two games.

However, despite creating chances, they failed to capitalize after McDonald Lameck missed a penalty.

Blue Eagles defender Bennet Konyo scored the lone goal in the 30th minute.

Blue Eagles Head Coach, Deklerk Msakakuona, hailed his players for showing determination throughout the game.

On the other hand, Silver Strikers Coach Peter Mgangira said the missed penalty affected the team’s spirit.

Webster Nzunda was named Man of the Match.

At least four people have been killed in Nsanje and Chikwawa districts following a wave of mob attacks linked to allegations of “manhood theft.”

Chikwawa Police Publicist, Dickson Matemba, said the latest victim, Baza Sande, 34, from Goma Village under Traditional Authority Ngabu, was burnt to death by an angry mob on the morning of 9 May 2026, barely a day after a couple from Traditional Authority Masache in the same district was also burnt to death.

In a separate incident, police managed to foil mob justice against Daniel Guta, 27, from Machokola Village, after he was accused of similar acts.

Matemba condemned the attacks, describing them as barbaric and driven by misinformation, and appealed for calm, urging residents not to take the law into their own hands.
