Malawi Secures Strategic Partnerships with UAE to Advance Malawi 2063 Vision
Malawi has taken a significant step towards realizing its long-term development blueprint, Malawi 2063, by entering into key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The agreements cover sectors such as mining, trade, education, and diplomatic training, marking a new chapter in bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
The MoUs were signed on Tuesday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, witnessed by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The signing ceremony highlights Malawi’s commitment to strengthening international ties that can translate into sustainable economic and social growth.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, emphasized the strategic importance of these agreements in aligning with the Malawi 2063 agenda, which envisions an inclusively wealthy and self-reliant nation. “The President has been engaging with different countries on how they can support Malawi’s development. These agreements show his dedication to making Malawi a better country,” she said. The UAE delegation’s visit follows up on President Chakwera’s earlier trip to the Gulf nation, where he promoted Malawi’s Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining (ATM) strategy to attract investment and partnerships.
