Pali chiyembekezo choti chiwerengelo cha fodya yemwe akukanidwa pansika chitsika potsatira zokambirana zomwe bungwe lomwe limaona za ulimi wa fodya mdziko muno la To***co Commission (TC) likuchita ndi kampani zogula fodya komanso unduna wa zamalimidwe.

South African opposition politician Julius Malema has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of the illegal possession of a gun and firing it in public.

Malema's lawyer said he would be appealing against the decision to prevent the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters from being taken away to prison. The length of the sentence could see the 45-year-old being disqualified as an MP.

Standing in court in a dark suit and red tie, Malema showed little emotion as the magistrate read out the sentence.

Last year, he was convicted of five offences, including the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging it in a public space and reckless endangerment.

The charges related to an incident in 2018 when a video emerged showing Malema using a semi-automatic rifle to fire several shots in the air during his party's fifth anniversary celebrations held in the country's Eastern Cape province.

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation says Dietitians and Nutritionists should strive for a cordial relationship and focus on achieving a common goal to ensure quality service delivery in the country’s hospitals.

Deputy Director in the Ministry, Nitha Nayeja made the remarks on Wednesday in Lilongwe during a stakeholder consultation meeting organized by the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) which sought to gather input for a Degree of Bachelor of Science in Dietetics (Honors) curriculum.

Nayeja said the two professions are key in the fight against malnutrition and they should work together for the benefit of Malawians.

“Government is committed to support dietitians and nutritionists by among others addressing their work needs. We need these sections to be visible in the health sector and work towards championing dietary diversity to fight chronic malnutrition,” she said.

MALAWI GVT. RELEASES 2026-27 FARM GATE PRICES

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development has released minimum farm gate prices for strategic crops for the 2026 and 2027 season.

According to the press release signed by Secretary for Agriculture and Water Development Erica Maganga, Maize, which is Malawi’ s staple food has been pegged at 900 kwacha per kilogram which means a 50 kilogram of maize will be purchased at 45,000 kwacha.

Soya beans will be purchased at 1,700 kwacha, Paddy rice at 1,500, pure beans 3,000 while shelled groundnuts will be purchased at 3,500 kwacha per kilogram, just to mention a few.

The ministry says these prices are with immediate effect and has so far urged all agro-dealers to buy crop commodities at not less than the prices stipulated by the ministry.
