Honoured to represent Malawi as President of Athletics Malawi at the 31st Congress of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), held on 14 July 2025 in Abeokuta, Nigeria.

This Congress was not just a meeting; it was a turning point. Critical resolutions were adopted to safeguard and accelerate the growth of athletics across the continent.

Among the key outcomes were the call for continental autonomy in electing World Athletics Council members, a major step towards African-led decision-making. And also a renewed push to resolve funding challenges facing African Athletics Development Centres (AADC).

These developments are crucial for Malawi. Greater continental representation and strengthened development structures mean more opportunities for our athletes, coaches, and federations to thrive.

Together, we can elevate athletics in Malawi and across Africa.

Hon. Vera Kamtukule , Minister of Tourism, will be the guest of honour at this year’s Mt Mulanje Porters Race scheduled for 12th July in Mulanje.

For starters, this is the oldest and consistent race in Malawi dating back to 1996. It was originally restricted to Mt Mulanje Porters but today it is race for everyone feeding athletes at national level at the same time promoting tourism.

If you are not going to be at the Mt Mulanje Porters Race, I don't know where else will you be.

The Athletics Malawi (AM) says nurturing local talents is important for the development of athletics in the country.

Vice President and Technical Director of Athletics Malawi Dennis Phiri said this on Tuesday in Balaka during the Balaka Run competition organized by Andiamo Trust.

District Sports Officer for Balaka Moses Chimbetete hailed Andiamo Trust for contributing to the development of athletes in the district the past 20 years it has organizing the sport in the district.

Deputy Director of Andiamo Trust Alessandro Marchetti said apart from being a sporting event, the activity also created an opportunity to sensitize both the youths and adults on gender based violence and children’s rights.

Schools and clubs within and outside Balaka some from as far as Lilongwe participated the competition and the winning schools trophies, the winning students from received school bags and other school materials while those from clubs cash prizes.
