Mary Chilima, widow of the late Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, says the grief from the June 10, 2024 plane crash remains deep two years on.

In a tribute marking the second anniversary, Mrs. Chilima reflected on life without her husband and the eight others who died when their military aircraft went down in Chikangawa Forest, Mzimba District.

“It is now two years my love. Two years without your love, two years without your friendship, two years without your protection and care.

Nthawi ikupita, koma chisoni chidakali chakuya. Everyday without you is hard my love,” she said.

Despite the pain, Mrs. Chilima expressed faith and hope, praying that the souls of all nine victims rest in peace and that “we will meet again in the future.”

Dr. Chilima, 51, was Malawi’s Vice President at the time of his death. He died alongside eight other passengers and crew members, including former First Lady Shanil Dzimbiri.

The crash shocked the nation and remains one of Malawi’s deadliest aviation tragedies.

The Malawi Police Service has introduced new charges for the provision of police officers on private assignments.

According to a letter signed by Commissioner Evalista Mvula Chisale, the cost of hiring one police officer for a private duty has been set at MK70,000 per day, with clients also required to pay an additional service fee of MK10,000 per day.

The circular has been distributed to all regional police commissioners, who have been directed to ensure the revised rates are implemented and adhered to.
