Wanthu wo wadanika wanyaki waku khansala wa Bungulu wadi, yoso ndi chitengu cha khanso ya boma la Nkhata Bay, Hannock Kachingwe musanawale wapereka katundu wakulekanalekana pachipatala chikulu cha boma la Nkhata Bay.

Nkhata Bay District Netball Committee says it expects more talent to be identified in Nkhata Bay South this weekend as the first-round matches of the Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba Netball League take place at Chiwaza Community Ground.

This will be the first time the tournament is being played in the area.

Speaking to Chirundu Online, Nkhata Bay District Netball Committee General Secretary Loyce Mwafulirwa said the committee is looking forward to exciting competition as four teams showcase their skills. She added that the league's talent identification programme is progressing well.

The Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba Netball League has brought together 14 teams from four zones namely Nkhata Bay Central, Nkhata Bay South, Mpamba, and Usisya, with the aim of exposing and nurturing local talent.

Meanwhile, local sports analyst Billy Mphande has encouraged participating teams to focus on quality and field players capable of representing Nkhata Bay at higher levels once identified.

Nkhata Bay South Zone will be represented by Chintheche Sisters, Tukombo Sisters, Kande Sisters, and Tigers.

Nkhata Bay based Mbelwa Northern Region Football League side Simbowe Stars has confirmed that it has changed its name to MAFU Stars.

Confirming the development, team founder Akusayenda Simbowe said the decision was reached after consultations with Senior Chief Mankhambira and Traditional Authority Fukamalaza.

Simbowe said the new name is expected to help the team attract wider support from communities and enhance its performance in the Mbelwa Northern Region Football League.

Meanwhile, one of the club’s main sponsors, Isaac Chitalaka, who had earlier opposed the proposed name “Chitalaka-Simbowe Stars,” has endorsed the new name, MAFU Stars.

Senior Chief Mankhambira and Traditional Authority Fukamalaza are yet to comment on the development.

As part of fulfilling his pledge to support sports development, Honourable Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba has facilitated the installation of floodlights at the Katoto Secondary School basketball courts in Mzuzu.

The floodlights are expected to enable basketball matches and training sessions to continue during the night hours.

Speaking to Chirundu Online after the poles for the floodlights were erected by the heavy vehicle, basketball enthusiast Chakufwa Chihana welcomed the development, saying the lights will increase playing time and give more sports lovers an opportunity to enjoy the game.

Honourable Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba today is expected to preside over the awards ceremony for outstanding performers in the K20 million Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba Volleyball League.

The installation comes at a time when the Northern Region is preparing to host the National Basketball Tournament at the same venue.
