Simbowe Stars closed the gap on Embangweni United as the Nkhata Bay based team defeated Ekwendeni Hardnockers by 2 goals to 1 at Mankhanbira Community Ground today.
Jimmy James and Foodora Innocent scored for the home team, while Lindi Sumphi netted for Ekwendeni Hardnockers.
With this win, Simbowe Stars now has 41 points, 3 points behind Embangweni United, having played 2 more games.
Speaking after the game, Simbowe Stars' coach Omega Mhone expressed dissatisfaction with the team's performance despite securing all three points.
"We did not play as Simbowe Stars should; I think the boys' morale was down after three of them lost their relatives," said Mhone.
Ekwendeni Hardnockers' coach, Victor Kapombe, said that his team played according to the plan but losing in the dying minutes is painful.
Ekwendeni Hardnockers, who played their first game after a 6 match ban due to lack of discipline, are currently in 13th position with 19 points after playing 16 games.
