Bwaila Media Club has today donated assorted items worth K1.8 million to Bwaila Hospital's maternity unit in Lilongwe to support sanitation and hygiene at the facility.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Bwaila Media Club president Felix Washoni said the donation forms part of the club’s corporate social responsibility undertaken alongside its quarterly meeting.

Bwaila Maternity Unit senior midwifery officer Bridget Kumwenda commended the club for the support, saying it will help address sanitation and hygiene challenges at the facility.

The donated items include plastic buckets, soap, mops and gumboots, among others.

Bwaila Media Club (BMC) congratulates its long-time member Mr. Arthur Chipenda on his appointment as Malawi's Director of Information.

Chipenda has served as Deputy Director of Information in the Ministry of Information and Digitalisation for about 9 and half years.

Since joining Malawi News Agency (MANA) as a junior information officer, Mr. Chipenda has been rising through the ranks to this new and high position.

As the Deputy Director of Information between 2015 and 2024, he successfully managed a number of progressive tasks, including the enactment and operationalisation of the Access to Information Law. Between 2013 and 2015, he was seconded to the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) as Public Relations Officer.

BMC is happy for Mr. Chipenda and wishes him well as he continues serving Malawi in his capacity as the Director of Information.
