In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
Welcome to this educational message from COAP | DA'AWATUL-RUSUL. This article explains the Islamic understanding of Islam, the prophets, and why Muslims follow Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
The purpose of this article is to explain what Muslims believe according to the Qur'an and the authentic teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. People of other faiths may have different beliefs, and this article is intended to present the Islamic perspective respectfully.
---
What Does "Islam" Mean?
Many people think that Islam is simply the name of a religion. However, in Arabic, the word has a much deeper meaning.
The Arabic word Islam (الإسلام) comes from the root letters S-L-M (س-ل-م), which are related to peace, safety, and submission.
Islam means:
Submission to Allah (God)
Obedience to Allah
Surrendering one's life to His guidance
Living in peace through obedience to the Creator
A Muslim is a person who willingly submits to Allah and follows His guidance.
According to Islam, this way of life did not begin with Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Rather, it is the same message that Allah revealed to every prophet throughout history.
---
Why Did Allah Send Prophets?
Allah created human beings with intelligence and free will. Throughout history, many people forgot their Creator, worshipped idols, followed their own desires, or committed injustice.
Out of His mercy, Allah sent prophets to guide people back to the truth.
Allah says in the Qur'an:
«"And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, saying, 'Worship Allah and avoid false gods.'"
(Qur'an 16:36)»
This teaches Muslims that Allah did not abandon humanity. Every nation received guidance through a messenger.
---
Did Every Prophet Teach a Different Religion?
According to Islam, the answer is No.
All prophets came with the same fundamental message:
Worship Allah alone.
Do not associate partners with Him.
Be truthful.
Be honest.
Establish justice.
Help the poor and needy.
Repent from sins.
Prepare for the Day of Judgment.
While some practical laws differed from one community to another according to Allah's wisdom, the central belief remained the same: there is only One God worthy of worship.
---
Who Were the Prophets?
Muslims believe that Allah sent many prophets throughout history.
Among those mentioned in the Qur'an are:
Adam (Ādam)
Idris (Enoch)
Noah (Nūḥ)
Hud
Salih
Abraham (Ibrāhīm)
Lot (Lūṭ)
Ishmael (Ismā'īl)
Isaac (Isḥāq)
Jacob (Ya'qūb)
Joseph (Yūsuf)
Job (Ayyūb)
Shu'ayb
Moses (Mūsā)
Aaron (Hārūn)
David (Dāwūd)
Solomon (Sulaymān)
Elijah (Ilyās)
Elisha (Al-Yasa')
Jonah (Yūnus)
Zechariah (Zakariyyā)
John the Baptist (Yaḥyā)
Jesus (ʿĪsā)
Dhul-Kifl
Muhammad ﷺ
The Qur'an also teaches that there were many other prophets whose names were not mentioned.
Allah says:
«"And there are messengers We have already told you about, and messengers We have not told you about."
(Qur'an 4:164)»
---
Were All Prophets Sent to the Whole World?
No.
Most prophets were sent to specific nations or communities.
For example:
Noah was sent to his people.
Hud was sent to the people of 'Ad.
Salih was sent to Thamud.
Lot was sent to the people of S***m.
Shu'ayb was sent to Midian.
Moses was sent to the Children of Israel and Pharaoh.
Jesus was sent to the Children of Israel.
Each prophet delivered Allah's message to the people assigned to him.
---
Why Were Prophets Sent to Different Nations?
Humanity lived across different regions, spoke different languages, and existed in different periods of history.
There was no internet, no television, no telephones, and no modern communication.
Allah, in His perfect wisdom, sent messengers who spoke the language of their own people so they could clearly understand the message.
Allah says:
«"We did not send any messenger except in the language of his people so that he might make the message clear to them."
(Qur'an 14:4)»
This demonstrates Allah's justice and mercy toward humanity.
---
What Makes Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Different?
According to Islam, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was not sent only to the Arabs.
Allah says:
«"We have not sent you except as a bearer of good news and a warner to all mankind."
(Qur'an 34:28)»
His mission was universal.
He was sent to:
Arabs and non-Arabs
Africans
Asians
Europeans
Every nation
Every race
Every generation until the Day of Judgment
This is why Muslims believe his message is universal.
---
What Does "The Final Prophet" Mean?
Muslims believe Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the final prophet.
Allah says:
«"Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal (Final) of the Prophets."
(Qur'an 33:40)»
This means:
No prophet will come after him.
No new revelation will replace the Qur'an.
His message completes the line of prophethood.
It does not mean earlier prophets were false or unimportant.
Muslims believe every prophet was truthful and chosen by Allah.
---
Do Muslims Respect Earlier Prophets?
Yes.
Belief in all prophets is an essential part of Islamic faith.
A Muslim cannot choose to believe in some prophets while rejecting others.
Muslims love and respect:
Adam
Noah
Abraham
Moses
Jesus
Muhammad ﷺ
and every prophet sent by Allah.
Rejecting any prophet is contrary to Islamic belief.
---
What Does Islam Teach About Jesus (ʿĪsā)?
Jesus (peace be upon him) holds a very special place in Islam.
Muslims believe:
He was born miraculously to the Virgin Mary (Maryam).
He was one of Allah's greatest prophets.
He performed miracles by Allah's permission.
He called people to worship Allah alone.
He is the Messiah (Al-Masīḥ).
Allah raised him, and he will return before the Day of Judgment according to authentic Islamic teachings.
Muslims greatly honour Jesus and his mother Mary.
---
What Does Islam Teach About Moses (Mūsā)?
Moses is among the greatest messengers in Islam.
Allah spoke to him directly, gave him the Torah (Tawrah), and sent him to guide the Children of Israel and confront Pharaoh.
His story is mentioned throughout the Qur'an as an example of faith, patience, and trust in Allah.
---
Why Do Muslims Follow Prophet Muhammad ﷺ?
An easy way to understand this is with an example.
Imagine a school.
Each teacher teaches a particular class.
Every teacher is correct for the students assigned to them.
Later, the head teacher issues rules for the entire school.
The earlier teachers were not wrong. Rather, the final instructions now apply to everyone.
Similarly, according to Islam, previous prophets guided specific communities, while Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was sent with Allah's final message for all humanity.
---
What Is the Qur'an?
The Qur'an is the final revelation from Allah.
Muslims believe it:
Was revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Confirms the truth found in earlier revelations.
Corrects alterations that occurred over time according to Islamic belief.
Is preserved by Allah.
Serves as guidance for all people until the Day of Judgment.
Muslims believe no new divine scripture will come after the Qur'an.
---
What Is the Purpose of Life in Islam?
According to the Qur'an, the purpose of life is:
To know Allah.
To worship Him alone.
To obey His guidance.
To live with honesty, justice, mercy, and compassion.
To prepare for the Hereafter through righteous deeds.
Islam teaches that faith should be reflected in good character and kindness toward others.
---
Summary
According to Islamic belief:
Allah sent prophets to every nation.
Every prophet called people to worship one God.
Most prophets were sent to specific communities.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was sent to all humanity.
He is the final prophet.
The Qur'an is Allah's final revelation.
Muslims must believe in and respect every prophet without exception.
Following Prophet Muhammad ﷺ does not mean rejecting Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, or any other prophet. Rather, Muslims believe in all of them and follow the final message revealed by Allah for humanity.
---
Conclusion
Islam teaches that Allah's guidance has been consistent throughout history. From Adam to Muhammad ﷺ, every prophet invited people to worship the One True God and live righteous lives.
Muslims believe Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was the final messenger whose mission was universal, and that the Qur'an is the final revelation for all people until the Day of Judgment.
Whether someone is learning about Islam for the first time or seeking to understand Muslim beliefs more deeply, the central message remains simple:
Worship Allah alone, follow His guidance, respect all His prophets, and strive to live a life of faith, justice, mercy, and compassion.

The Call of the Messengers | Reviving and Sharing the Truth
"Inviting to the worship of Allah alone through wisdom, knowledge, and compassion."
🌿 A Final Invitation
Dear Reader,
Thank you for taking the time to read this message.
If you have reached this point with an open heart, we invite you to reflect on one simple question:
If Allah truly sent prophets throughout history, and if Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was His final messenger for all humanity, then what message should we follow today?
Islam invites every person—not through force, but through knowledge, reflection, and sincere faith—to worship Allah alone, without partners, and to follow the guidance He revealed through His final Messenger, Muhammad ﷺ.
The Qur'an says:
«"Say, 'O mankind! Indeed, I am the Messenger of Allah to you all.'"
(Qur'an 7:158)»
And Allah also says:
«"There is no compulsion in religion. Truth stands clear from falsehood."
(Qur'an 2:256)»
Islam encourages every person to ask questions, seek evidence, reflect sincerely, and pray to the Creator for guidance.
If you sincerely believe that there is only one God worthy of worship and that Muhammad ﷺ is His Messenger, then embracing Islam is simply declaring that belief.
The testimony of faith (Shahādah) is:
Arabic:
أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، وأشهد أن محمداً رسول الله
Transliteration:
Ashhadu an lā ilāha illā Allah, wa ashhadu anna Muḥammadan Rasūl Allah.
Meaning:
"I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."
Accepting Islam is the beginning of a lifelong journey of worship, learning, good character, mercy, and drawing closer to Allah.
Whether you choose to accept Islam today or simply wish to learn more, we encourage you to continue seeking the truth with sincerity, humility, and an open heart.
May Allah guide every sincere seeker to what is true, bless us with wisdom and understanding, forgive our shortcomings, and unite us upon goodness.
O Allah, guide us to the Straight Path—the path of those whom You have blessed. Āmīn.
Jazakum Allahu Khayran for reading.
