In 1948, Huang Yijun from China experienced an ectopic pregnancy—a rare condition where the fetus begins developing outside the womb.

Tragically, she couldn’t afford the surgery needed to remove it. With no treatment, her body responded in a shocking way: it calcified the fetus to protect her from infection. This phenomenon is known as a "lithopedion" or “stone baby.”

For 61 years, Huang unknowingly carried the calcified remains inside her. She lived her life with no idea that this silent presence was still within her until, in 2009, at the age of 92, doctors finally discovered and removed it.

The medical world was stunned—not just by the rarity of the case, but by the strength and resilience of the woman who unknowingly carried a stone baby for over six decades.

Cases like this remind us just how strange and mysterious the human body can be—and how survival sometimes takes forms we can barely imagine.
